About Pilar

- What kind of experience do you have?

I have been in numerous orchestras and choirs since I started playing the flute in 2005. I have been learning the flute for 8 years and have been going to a Saturday music school, Centre for Young Musicians (CYM) for 3 years, learning with Judith Treggor and being part of many flute ensembles and orchestras.
I was a voluntary maths tutor in my previous school, Cardinal Vaughan for students in year 7, as well as having a little brother (10) who I help with homework.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

Yes, I have a CRB check which I needed when volunteering for a charity called Vitalise which is a holiday resort for disabled people and when volunteering in a local disables-peoples home.

- Where and with whom did you train?

I have been learning the flute for nearly 9 years and my tutors have been Mr. Simon Desorgher and Judith Treggor.

- What kind of experience do you have?

- I have been tutoring for 5 years, I have a lot of experiencing in teaching GCSE maths and helping students achieve their goals.
- I have been teaching the flute for 3 years to beginner students which have now come to preparing for their Grade 5.
- I have experiencing teaching the piano to beginners as well.
- Musical experience: I attended a Saturday Music School, Centre for Young Musicians for 3 years where I was involved in many orchestras, jazz bands, ensemble groups, trios. I was also part of the London Schools Symphony Orchestra for 1 year, playing the flute. I have been in many choirs throughout my schooling life. I currently do a lot of Musical Theatre performances at university also.

Hello! I'm Pilar, 18 years old, am studying medicine at UCL and am starting to give flute lessons and tutor maths.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I teach the flute up to Grade VI, beginners if you are just starting to learn the flute or if you have a bit of experience already!
I also tutor maths from primary school level up the A level.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I passed my Grade 8 flute with Distinction in May 2010, my Singing Grade 8 in May 2012 also with Distinction and Piano Grade 8 in May 2013 with Merit. I am an accomplished musician and played the flute in the London Schools Symphony Orchestra (LSSO) in 2011-2012 with some of London's most talented young musicians with whom I went on an orchestra tour to the Checz Republic summer 2012.
My GCSE results were 14 A*s in including Music and Maths and I have just finished my A Levels of Maths (A*), Biology (A*), Chemistry (A) and Music (A*).
I am now starting my first year of studying Medicine at University College London (UCL)

- How much do you charge?

For flute tutoring I charge £20/hr (£10 for half an hour lessons) as I am a student so will not charge the standard rate of at least £30/hr.
I do not charge extra fees for travel. I am willing to do a free first taster lesson.
For maths tutoring I charge £15/hr and will also do a free taster lesson.

- Where do you teach?

I will mainly teach at home but am willing to travel to nearby areas e.g.: West Norwood, Streatham, Dulwich, Brixton, Crystal Palace, South Norwood and Croydon.

- When are you available?

I am mainly available on Saturday mornings to afternoons. I am not as available during the week due to university timetables and other clubs/commitments.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I am happy to teach the flute from the age of 6/7 to however old!

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

I am happy to prepare flute students up to Grade VI as I feel I need more teaching experience to be able to coach students of a level higher than that for the moment.
With maths, I am happy to prepare students for GCSE level, A level and KS3 if any extra help and understanding is needed.

I am a young, energetic medical student in London with a passion for music. I loved maths at school but unfortunately is often not taught very well. Maths is a nightmare if not explained properly, which is why I take pride in making maths simple!

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I teach the flute from beginner level to Grade 6 level. I also teach maths from primary school level to GCSE level.

Currently in my 5th year of a 6 year MBBS Medical Degree
DEGREE in Medical Sciences with Psychology (2.1)
A levels: Music (A*), Maths (A*), Biology (A*), Chemistry (A), Spanish (A*)
GCSEs: 14 GCSEs, all achieved A* grade.
MUSIC: Flute (Grade 8), Piano (Grade 8), Singing (Grade 8), Recorder (Grade 4)

- How much do you charge?

For flute: I charge £17 for half an hour, £30 for one hour
For maths: £25 an hour for all levels.

- Where do you teach?

I prefer to teach in my house.
But am willing to travel to houses within 15 minute walking distance from my house.

- When are you available?

I am mainly available on Wednesday afternoons from 2-6.30pm, On other evening evenings from 7-9pm and on Saturday during the day.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I am happy teaching children from 9 years and above.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

Year 6 end of year exams, Secondary school KS3 end of year exams, GCSE Maths examinations
