I have been teaching Maths from Key Stage 3 up to A level in Secondary schools for over 15 years. I find pupils soon feel more confident about their own ability and realise that Mathematics is not as difficult as they once thought.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach:
GCSE Mathematics, A level Mathematics (all modules) and New specification for GCSE and A level
GCSE Science and A level Chemistry
11 + and 13+
Key Stage 3 Mathematics
Key Stage 3 Science
Tell me about your qualifications.
I graduated in 1999 with BSc (Chemistry) from University of Birmingham
I have a Masters in Science in 2001 from Aston University
and a PGCE (Secondary) Mathematics in 2002 from University of Wolverhampton
What kind of experience do you have?
As I am a full time teacher in a Secondary School in Walsall and have taught to the main syllabuses within the UK I have access to all the necessary resources. I have the expertise to deliver and help learners achieve their potential. I am fully prepared to teach the New Syllabus for GCSE and A level Mathematics. Moreover I work for Edexcel, OCR and AQA examination boards as an examiner and I am fully aware of what is expected of the pupils for their exams. I always provide students with homework and the required materials which they will need during lessons.
At school I am a mentor to student teachers and am responsible to work with SEN and Gifted and Talented students. I am good at differentiating work for differing needs that students may have.
Due to my Grammar School background I have kept up to date with the 11 plus examination and over the years I have also tutored this with my strengths lying in Mathematics and Verbal Reasoning.
As well as working with young people I also enjoy helping Adults and have helped several people pass Adult Numeracy tests for teaching and other vocational courses.
I also teach two sessions of GCSE Science and A level Chemistry a week in school as Chemistry is my second subject and have been tutoring Chemistry up to A level for over 5 years.
For A level Mathematics I am able to help with the new specification as well as the old which integrates Statistics, Mechanics and Core elements and also I know the syllabus for all major exam boards including Edexcel, OCR, MEI and AQA.
I tutor one to one when I am not working in school and am therefore available at the weekends and evenings. I can either come to the home or the tutee can come to my home if that suits them better. The idea is usually to prepare them for an exam such as 11+, GCSE or A level and as the New specifications (9-1) have come out pupils are finding some of the topics and styles of questions challenging. Through tutoring with myself they improve their knowledge, exam technique and therefore confidence for the subject. Examination technique and consolidation of past exam questions is a skill in itself and often learners need extra guidance on this which I enjoy providing.
How much do you charge?
£35 an hour
Where do you teach?
I teach from home or I can come to the tutee's home. I am based in Sutton Coldfield but I can also travel to Erdington, Kingstanding and areas within 5 miles of B73.
When are you available?
