Personal Message
I love meeting and building a rapport with new students. Each person is so different in their experiences and outlook, so I find it incredibly enriching to be able to meet each student at their level and work together to move forward.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
While oboe and piano are the instruments I have studied and taught most intensively (up to degree level), I have experience teaching all other woodwind instruments (clarinet, saxophone, recorder) and of course music theory and academic music. I teach all members of the oboe family, including historical oboes.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I hold a bachelors degree in oboe performance from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where I studied for four years. Previous to that I studied A-levels in Music, Music Technology, English Literature and German at Chetham's School of Music.
What kind of experience do you have?
I started teaching privately in Devon in 2007, and continued to expand my private teaching when I moved to London in 2011 to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. As well as private lessons, I have held teaching positions at Borough Music School, Sutton Music Centre, Richmond Music Trust and Bolingbroke Academy. I regularly hold workshops at schools and nurseries in and around London and the South West, often in conjunction with the charity Dartington Young Musician's Support, and every August I coach at the international summer school Baroque Week. I love to work with all ages and experience levels.

Alongside my pedagogical practices I am a professional freelance orchestral and chamber musician, and have played with orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestra of the Swan. I am a member of the Opéra de Baugé festival orchestra and am currently involved in an exciting new historical performance project called Good Vibrations, which aims to create powerful, holistic performances based on the principles of just intonation.
How much do you charge?
I charge £35 per hour (£20 for 30 mins, £30 for 45 mins) from my music studio at home in Merstham.
Where do you teach?
I teach at home in my studio in Merstham. I have taught at students' houses in Redhill and Reigate.
When are you available?
I teach throughout the week (Monday to Sunday) but my schedule is subject to changes. Please get in touch to see what spaces I have currently.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all ages up to degree level.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I am happy to prepare those who wish to take ABRSM grades 1-8, Trinity Laban exams, as well as auditions for funding, schools etc.
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I have had DBS checks at all the schools and centres I have taught at but currently do not have an up-to-date certificate. This may change in the near future.
Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I use Skype to teach online.
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians.
