Personal Message
I teach saxophone online to adults from my studio via Skype!
30 minutes or 1 hour at a time that suits us both. Very reasonable rates.
Please get in touch if you want a lesson... wherever you are in the world!
Which subject(s) do you teach?
Anything that involves playing the saxophone - technique, improvising, harmony, transcription, reading, phrasing etc, in any style of music. My experience of different sax styles is extensive.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I studied at the Royal Academy of Music and attained a performance degree and teaching diploma.
What kind of experience do you have?
I've enjoyed teaching 1 on 1 sax lessons for as long as I've been playing professionally, which is about 25 years, both privately and as the Jazz Saxophone Teacher at the Blackheath Conservatoire of Music and the Arts in S.E. London. I'm a professional performer and session musician on saxophones and woodwinds. I've worked with many bands, artists and composers over the years in many styles including more recently Gong and Evelyn Glennie. I also work as a composer and music producer.
How much do you charge?
£20 for 30 minutes or £35 for one hour.
Where do you teach?
Online from my studio as well as 121 sessions at the Blackheath Conservatoire of Music and the Arts.
When are you available?
At a time that suits us both, any time, any day as long as i am available. Lessons can be occasional or on a more regular basis, schedule permitting, whatever suits your situation.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
Adults. Any level, from beginner to advanced and everything in between!
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
No, because I'm not currently teaching children or vulnerable adults.
Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I teach from my recording studio. All you need is a computer/notepad with webcam and speakers (and your saxophone!)
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am a member of the Musicians' Union.
Where and with whom did you train?
Royal Academy of Music
Tell me about some of your current students.
Currently they mainly have an interest in Jazz and/or improvisation. My students are a mixture of beginners or aspiring professionals or people that have played earlier in life and have come back to the instrument.
Do you have a personal message for students?
Each lesson i teach is influenced by what each student aspires to, and what their weaknesses and strengths are. If you have pieces or ideas you'd like to work on we will spend some time on those things, i will also suggest exercises and pieces that i think will benefit you. I have a large selection of pieces we can work with that are fun and challenging. I use email to send these for you to print out. So in other words, each lesson is tailor made for you to develop and grow as a player and musician.
