Personal Message
I have over 30 years' experience in digital and film format photography. Having spent almost 20 years in the UK civil service, rising to Director level, I left to return to college and pursue photography at a professional level.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
Practical photography skills and theory of photography. Students who need to cover elements of a formal qualification can expect a combination of sessions comprising practical and theoretical work. Learners who would like to improve their practical skills with the camera will receive less theory and more practical tutoring. All students will have the opportunity to practice photography techniques in my Swindon based studio.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a Photography HND (Distinction) and a BTEC in Education and Training. I am also a Licentiate member of the Royal Photographic Society. My first degree in Mathematics (BSc Hons) qualified me to enter the UK Civil Service as a statistician. A career change opportunity saw me return to college to study photography, while also setting up my business. I also studied for a BTEC in Education and Training, to support me in my tutoring work. I have further qualifications in coaching and mentoring, and provide mentoring support to a teenager through a local charity.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have photography experience of over 30 years, both in film and digital formats. My photography business covers pets, portraits, and corporate/event photography. For pleasure, I enjoy photographing nature, landscapes, and still life. My pet portraits have been used in a number of calendars, and also selected to display at a London exhibition in May 2017.
How much do you charge?
The first session is offered at half price to give students a chance to discuss their requirements and get a flavour of my tutoring style. If they would like to continue working with me, full price sessions are then offered at £30 an hour.
Where do you teach?
Teaching takes place at students' houses, on location as appropriate (these areas will always be publicly accessible and within easy reach of Swindon), and at my studio if the student would like to practice studio work.
When are you available?
Weekdays and some evenings.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
All levels up to and including HND.
All ages welcome.
Beginner photographers who would like to learn more about using their own cameras are also welcome.
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I have a DBS certificate dated November 2016. This was issued for the voluntary work I do as a mentor with a local charity.
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
The Guild of Photographers.
The Royal Photographic Society.
The Societies of Photographers.
Where and with whom did you train?
Swindon College HND Photography (Distinction)
Do you have a personal message for students?
Photography is a wonderful way to express yourself. An important part of learning and developing as a photographer is to find your own style. I will work with you towards this and also tutor you in the curriculum elements of the subject.
