Personal Message
There are no age limits in music.
I welcome students of all abilities who wish to take clarinet or piano lessons, whether beginners or relearning forgotten skills.
I can arrange lesson times to suit and have no set course fees except my hourly rate.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach piano and clarinet.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I hold a licentiate Diploma (LTCL) and a ALCM alongside a Certificate in Education (Worcester) with music as my primary subject. I have been awarded the Bachelor of Arts
degree, honoris causa, by The University of Worcester and am also qualified to teach Suzuki Piano.
What kind of experience do you have?
I began my career teaching music at secondary school level before moving into peripatetic piano and clarinet teaching which included clarinet teaching posts in Stamford School, Culford School and Notre Dame School in Norwich. I taught piano in Riddlesworth Hall School and at home to both adults and children. Latterly I taught for Music in Schools around East Yorkshire. Whilst concentrating on family life I studied the Suzuki piano course for teachers and introduced groups of young children and their parents to music playing via the Suzuki method. I am now welcoming new students to learn with me at home in Aldeburgh.
How much do you charge?
My fee is £28.00 per hour or £15.00 for half an hour. I also offer one free consultation lesson so that you can try out my teaching style to see if it suits your needs.
Where do you teach?
I teach at home in Aldeburgh and welcome students from across Suffolk, including Leiston, Saxmundham, Woodbridge, Framlingham Wickham Market and Halesworth.
When are you available?
I am available to teach most days and can be flexible when arranging lessons.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all ages specialising in beginner clarinet and piano. I can help in preparation for Trinity / Guildhall,ABRSM examinations and local music festivals. I can also prepare students for Suzuki levels.
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Do you have a personal message for students?
I think it's really important that as a learner of an instrument you have faith in your abilities and that they are fostered. Learning an instrument can be a great way of finding a new way to express yourself. I think it's so important that you learn independence and have your own point of view when performing. The most important thing is that you have fun with it!
