Personal Message
I am a professionally-trained pianist as well as an experienced and friendly piano teacher, with a proven ability to get the very best out of students. I welcome pupils of all ages and abilities.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach keyboard / piano and music theory.
Tell me about your qualifications.
2009-2010: Studied the Master course in solo (Piano) performance at the Royal Northern college of music for 1 year with an entrance scholarship.
2005-2009: Bachelor Degree in Musicology from Beijing Normal University.
Various piano grade exams and competitions awards.
Overseas trained teacher (OTT).
What kind of experience do you have?
I have experience teaching music lessons in a state secondary school (in Beijing) as a school music teacher. I also have experience giving piano lessons to pupils as a private instrument teacher. While I was teaching in China, since students' improvement was obvious and rapid during lessons, I got strong recommendations from parents. And now, I permanently teach in the UK. I currently run a specialist private piano teaching studio preparing students for graded exams from the level of prep-test right through to music college level. All my students have passed ABRSM exams (the exam board of Royal Schools of Music) at a high standard, most of whom have gained results with Merit/ Distinction.
How much do you charge?
£35.00 for an hour and £19.00 for half an hour.
Where do you teach?
I teach at my home studio in the Breightmet area of Bolton. Lessons at studio are taught on a beautiful new Yamaha baby grand piano. Parents are welcome to sit in on lessons.
When are you available?
Mondays - Fridays from 4pm to 7pm and Sundays from 10am to 12.30pm & 4pm to 7pm.
I usually have two weeks break during the Christmas/New Year and two weeks break in the summer but give parents the option to select appropriate lesson weeks to fit in with family arrangements in holidays.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach children and adults at all levels.
(I accept children as young as 4 years old and up)
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I could help students to prepare for ABRSM grades 1-8 and diplomas, school performances, music college entrance auditions (if the student has decided to pursue music as career by then), or win competitions trophies!
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Available on request.
Where and with whom did you train?
At the Royal Northern College of Music I studied with Paul Roberts.
At the Beijing Normal University I learnt from Yang Jun.
Tell me about some of your current students.
My current students are from the level of completely beginner to advanced player at ABRSM grade 8. My youngest student is only at age 4, all my pupils work towards ABRSM grade exams, which help them set and achieve goals while they enjoy making music. I also teach some adults who want to take exams or just learn purely for pleasure. All my students are passionate about music, hard working and I enjoy seeing them progress and grow.
Do you have a personal message for students?
The rewards of learning piano can be immense. It can make a difference in your present as well as your future. Please feel free to contact me. I look forward to welcoming new pupils and helping them improve.
