Personal Message
I am a highly experienced yet friendly and approachable piano teacher with a background in professional musicianship.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach the piano and music theory.
Tell me about your qualifications.
BMus (Hons) (Wales)
PGDip (RWCMD)
CTABRSM
DipABRSM (Teaching)
Advanced Certificate (ABRSM)
What kind of experience do you have?
I have been teaching piano to children and adults through private lessons for over 18 years, and taught at RWCMD Junior Conservatoire for 15. I am a specialist in early years and advanced (post grade 8) pianists, gifted musicians, rebuilding confidence in students who may be struggling with their music studies, and working with children with SEN and SpLD such as visual impairments, Autism/Aspergers, dyslexia, dyscalculia, and dyspraxia.

My priority to my students is to give them an enjoyment of learning and playing the piano through an understanding of music and an excellent technique. I teach creatively, making sure that every student is comfortable and happy in their lessons, whatever their level of playing.

Sitting of graded exams are an option, but these should be viewed as occasional achievement goals, rather than the sole purpose of lessons. Not focussing solely on exams means that my students have the freedom to develop fully at the piano, rather than merely learning how to pass an exam, (although when they do choose to sit exams, they are always prepared exceptionally well).

I teach music theory alongside practical piano lessons to complement understanding of music. If required, I prepare students for ABRSM and Trinity theory exams (currently up to grade 5), making sure that theoretical knowledge is kept relevant to practical work
How much do you charge?
I charge £34 per hour, £17 per half hour.
Where do you teach?
I teach at my home in Roath, Cardiff.
When are you available?
Monday - Friday roughly 4-8pm.
I teach a regular timetable during school term time, but outside of terms, I teach to those students who wish to not have a break from their lessons.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
Age 4+ (including adult learners)
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I can prepare students for ABRSM and Trinity grade exams, although these are, of course optional.
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
No.
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians and the Dyslexia Guild.
