Personal Message
I invite students of all ages and abilities to learn the piano at my music studio in Chipping Campden. I am a highly experienced piano teacher with a great passion and drive for helping students achieve to the best of their abilities.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach Piano, Musicianship and Music Theory from beginner to professional level. Currently I teach at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, and I have previously worked for Wigan Educational Authority and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I studied at the Royal Northern College of Music and Manchester University with one of the pre-eminent piano teachers in the UK. At the RNCM I received BMus, MMus, and later at Manchester University, PGCE qualifications. In my career as a pianist I performed throughout the UK and broadcast live on BBC Radio before moving into music education where I have spent the last 30 years working with young musicians of all different abilities. I still perform as soloist and chamber musician and teach piano at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.
What kind of experience do you have?
As a young person I taught for Wigan Education Authority for many years, working with children in groups and giving individual lessons. Following this I taught at the Birmingham Conservatoire, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and currently I am working at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. I have taught from beginner to the highest professional level, and all ages from young children to adults.
How much do you charge?
My fee for an hour's lesson is £50.00
Where do you teach?
I teach at my home, where I have a Yamaha C3 Grand piano in a specially built music studio. I am uniquely placed for surrounding towns and cities, living in a radius near Stratford, Birmingham, Cheltenham and Oxford.
When are you available?
I am available for lessons at weekends and weekday evenings.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all ages and all levels. My aim is to make each lesson enjoyable and challenging, setting long and short-term goals to inspire and encourage. I place great emphasis on listening, and with my younger students will incorporate listening games into each lesson.
With my advanced students I work on technical development, sound production, musicality and performance practice. I have a great knowledge of the piano repertoire and am very experienced at choosing pieces for each student. I am equally experienced at teaching students for whom the piano is a hobby alongside those who have ambition to pursue a career in music.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
ABRSM and Trinity College Examinations, Diplomas, A Level and GCSE performance, and conservatoire entrance auditions.
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I do not have an up-to-date DBS certificate.
