Hello, my name's Philip and I'm a pianist, teacher and Junior Fellow at the Royal Northern College of Music. I am passionate about sharing my love of music and believe that learning the piano can be an incredibly rewarding experience.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach piano to people of all ages and abilities, from complete beginners right up to students studying for ABRSM Diploma level examinations.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I studied for three years at Chetham's School of Music with Dr. Murray McLachlan before going on to continue my studies at both the Royal Northern College of Music and Manchester University on the prestigious 'Joint Course'. I was awarded a first class degree for my undergraduate studies and continued at the RNCM for postgraduate study, gaining a Masters of Music with Distinction. I am now a Junior Fellow at the RNCM.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have several years of private teaching experience where I have prepared students for both ABRSM and Trinity examinations, as well as preparation for GCSE and A - Level performances. I am also a piano teacher for a privately run music school in Cheshire.
How much do you charge?
I charge £15 for half an hour and £30 for the full hour, though I offer the first lesson for free!
Where do you teach?
I teach at my home in West Didsbury, however, I am more than happy to travel to my students' homes if they'd prefer.
When are you available?
I am available most weekday evenings and weekends.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach people of all ages and abilities. I teach several adult students as well as children as young as 5, with abilities ranging from complete beginner right up to diploma level pianists.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I prepare students for both ABRSM and Trinity examinations, as well as preparation for GCSE and A - Level performances.
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes.
Where and with whom did you train?
I studied with Anne Scott at the Music School of Douglas Academy from 2005-2009, then with Dr. Murray McLachlan at both Chetham's School of Music and the RNCM respectively from 2009 - 2016. I undertook my postgraduate studies with Prof. Frank Wibaut.
