About Tigran

- What kind of experience do you have?

I started teaching in 2006. My first student was a seven year old boy at that time. I am fortunate to still teach him today. He has reached a grade 8 standard and is playing with a highly expressive sound and a fluent effortless technique. Through word of mouth I now have over twenty piano students.

Since I started teaching, I have taught over 50 students. I have experience in teaching complete beginners, children as young as four, teenagers and adults as well as students with special needs, such as autism and dyslexia.

I have experience in preparing students for the following exams ABRSM, Trinity Grades 1-8 piano and ABRSM Grades 1-5 theory.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

Yes, I have a DBS certificate (2017)

- Where and with whom did you train?

During my childhood in my hometown of Yerevan in Armenia, I was fortunate enough to be taught by one of the country's finest concert pianists - Armen Babakhanyan. Since moving to London I have been a student of Thalia Myers at the Royal College of Music Junior Department, Philip Fowke when I studied for a Bachelor Degree at Trinity Laban and Gabriele Baldocci when I did my Masters Degree also at Trinity Laban.

- Do you belong to any professional organisations?

I have become a member of the London Piano Teachers' Company in 2013.

I am happy to teach my students at their homes or at my home (I have a modern upright piano). I am happy to travel to teach in Dulwich (East, West and North), Herne Hill, Forest Hill, Denmark Hill, Brixton, Camberwell and Peckham, however other areas in London will also be considered.

- When are you available?

At the moment I have a few spaces to take more students. I have spaces during the week (after 4pm) and on the weekends.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I teach all ages and all levels up to diploma standard.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

I am happy to prepare my students for piano exams (grades 1-8 of ABRSM and Trinity College London) and ABRSM theory exams (Grades 1-5).

However preparing students for Grades is not the priority. The priority is to ensure that students receive lessons in a relaxed and friendly environment, to identify and work on the music that would appeal to them most and to encourage them to make the most of the possibilities that they have to develop as musicians.

- Do you have a personal message for students?

It is important to enjoy the experience of learning a musical instrument and to believe in yourselves, whether the piece of music you're playing is simple or difficult to learn. Strong working relationships with teachers and regular practice with understanding of the interpretation of the piece(s) are the key to making noticeable progress. Listening to BBC Radio 3 and going to concerts is highly recommended as these are not only great for expanding the knowledge of classical music but also for giving the inspiration to practise and perform with excitement and passion.
