Personal Message
I’ve just relocated to Penzance from Aberdeenshire and am looking for new pupils from September 2017. I am properly qualified, experienced, conservatoire trained teacher.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach piano and singing.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I studied at Trinity College of Music in London and have a piano teaching diploma (LTCL) and an honours degree (GTCL). I was also awarded a BEM in the Queens 90th birthday Honours in June 2016 for services to music in the NE Scotland.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have 35 years of experience as a teacher and many of my pupils have been accepted in music colleges and universities and have gone onto careers in music.
I am also a choral conductor and arts administrator with many years experience.

I have performed as a pianist and singer (soprano) on many occasions and enjoy accompanying.
How much do you charge?
I charge £35 per hour or £18 for 30 minutes., Beginner children have 20 minute lessons at £13.
Where do you teach?
I teach at home in Penzance for pupils from all over Cornwall but do not travel to pupils' homes.
When are you available?
I teach on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1.30pm - 7.00pm.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I enjoy teaching all ages (children should be able to read) and all abilities from beginner to diploma standard.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I train pupils for school music exams (including theory), ABRSM exams, auditions, entry exams and diplomas.
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I have an up to date DBS certificate.
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians (Private teachers section) which only lists properly qualified teachers. I am a member of the Association of British Choral Conductors.
Where and with whom did you train?
I started piano lessons at four years old with the late RNCM teacher Marjorie Clementi, completing my 100% record of piano exam passes at distinction with grade 8 at fourteen years old. I also studied singing with RNCM teacher Caroline Crawshaw (passing all my exams including grade 8 with distinction), as well as taking lessons in percussion and flute.

I then went on to study piano with doyenne teacher Fanny Waterman in Leeds and with concert pianist Peter Donohoe before going to Trinity College of Music in London.
There I studied with Eva Bernatova (piano) and Valerie Cardnell (singing). I continued singing studies with Raimund Herincx in Aberdeen into my 30s.
Do you have a personal message for students?
If there’s a choice, it’s important to choose a conservatoire-trained teacher for you or your child.
