I am a very experienced recitalist, teacher, examiner and adjudicator and I offer friendly, helpful guidance to pupils of all ages and stages.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach piano, organ, harpsichord, music theory and history, harmony and counterpoint.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I was Parry-Wood Organ Scholar at Exeter College Oxford and I read for an Honours Degree in Music. I graduated BA (Oxon) and MA (Oxon). and I have an ARCO Diploma (Organ Performance, Harmony and Counterpoint and History).
What kind of experience do you have?
I was Sub-Organist at Portsmouth Cathedral then Director of Music at several secondary schools in Hampshire, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire for 17 years before freelancing as a peripatetic teacher, concert performer, conductor of choirs, examiner to the ABRSM and LCM and festival adjudicator. Recitals have included Wigmore Hall, Purcell Room, South Bank, many London churches including St Martin-in-the Fields and St Paul's Cathedral. Examining and performing have take me all over Europe, Asia and New Zealand.
How much do you charge?
For all pupils I charge £40 per hour (pro rata for shorter lessons e.g. £20 per half hour and £30 per 45 minutes.)
Where do you teach?
I only teach at home.
When are you available?
I am flexible and can teach at any time on any day of the week and at weekends.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
All ages and levels, though I prefer not to teach very young children unless they are very advanced for their age. Generally, from the age of 8 works for me.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
All grades and diplomas.
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

Where and with whom did you train?
Organ with John Webster at University College, Oxford then harpsichord with George Malcolm at Dartington College (master classes and private lessons).
Tell me about some of your current students.
At present I have a very mixed group of pupils for organ and piano, ranging from 13 to mature adults.
