Personal Message
As an active composer and performing musician myself, I always strive to ignite and encourage a deep longterm passion for music.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach the piano and music theory up to ABRSM/Trinity Grade 8 level. I am also very happy to teach composition, orchestration and other practical musical disciplines - including the use of Sibelius software. I also offer coaching for students preparing for GCSE and A level exams in music and am available as an accompanist for instrumentalists and singers: for exams, for exam and audition preparation - as well as general coaching and performance.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a PhD in Musical Composition from the Universty of Bristol (where I studied with Dr Robert Saxton and Prof. Raymond Warren) - and I also previously earned my BA and an MA in 20th Century Music at the same institution. After leaving Bristol, I received a Polish government scholarship to study in Warsaw with Prof. Włodzimierz Kotoński at Warsaw's Chopin Academy (now renamed as the Warsaw Fryderyk Chopin Musical University - 'Uniwersytet Muzyczny Fryderyka Chopina w Warszawie') .

I also studied orchestral and operatic conducting with Diego Masson and Bogusław Madey.
What kind of experience do you have?
Apart from my work as a composer over the last 20 years or so - including a number of high profile commissions and performances around trhe world (please see my website for further details - - I have been playing and teaching the piano for many years and enjoy working with students of all ages and abilities.
How much do you charge?
I charge £40/hour, £20/half hour, £30 for 45 minutes for lessons at my home and will only consider teaching at a student's home if very close - otherwise travel-time far outweighs the length of the lesson and my timetable suffers!. I'm happy to negotiate special rates for blocks of 4 or more lessons.
Where do you teach?
I am based just off Haslemere Road in Crouch End (close to bus stops served by the W7, 41 and 91 buses). I now only consider home visits if pupils live within close walking distance. Piano pupils should have a decent instrument at home if I am teaching there.
When are you available?
Weekdays are generally good up to about 8.30pm, though I'm rarely free on Monday evenings. Saturday slots may also be possible.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I enjoy working with students of all ages and abilities. At present my pupils' ages range from about 5 to 65.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
ABRSM/Trinity Grade exams, GCSEs, A levels, etc...
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes, I have newly-issued DBS certificate dated 19th March 2014.
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am a Member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians
Where and with whom did you train?
See qualifications above...
