Personal Message
I am an enthusiastic communicator, recognised as being a caring, supportive tutor with a passion for Psychology and a desire to see students succeed.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I specialise in the teaching of Psychology.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I graduated with a first class degree (BSc Hons) in Psychology. I also have a PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Further, Adult and Higher Education). I have A levels in Psychology, English Literature, French and General Studies.
What kind of experience do you have?
I am a qualified Psychology teacher with 15 years' experience teaching A Level at a leading FE college in Cheshire. I have a proven track record developing and implementing my personally created teaching and learning resources to deliver challenging, supportive and rewarding learning sessions where my aim is to raise students' achievements beyond their expectations. I am also an experienced examiner for a leading examination board (AQA) and as such, am able to help students maximise their potential using targeted revision and examination techniques to attract marks in the most efficient and effective way. I have been tutoring privately since September 2016 and have found being able to provide extra academic support in this way to be incredibly rewarding as I witness real, measurable progress in learners.
How much do you charge?
I provide a free-of-charge introductory session for each new tutee. This session provides the opportunity for us to find out more about each other and for me to gain a more detailed insight into your individual requirements in order to prepare bespoke sessions. I have also taught a small group of tutees for which there is a reduced rate per head. This can be discussed with any tutees wanting to be tutored in this way.
Where do you teach?
I am happy to tutor in my own home in Audlem, Cheshire, the tutee's home, or online via Skype. If tutoring face-to-face, I am happy to drive 15 miles to visit a tutee at their home. However, if the distance is greater than 15 miles, I may still be willing to travel but would have to charge for my mileage at 50p per mile. I have taught tutees from across Cheshire, Staffordshire and Shropshire. Towns include Nantwich, Crewe, Market Drayton, Newcastle-under Lyme, Middlewich, Sandbach, Holmes Chapel, Alderley Edge, Chester, Whitchurch, Stafford, Stoke-on-Trent and Tarporley.
When are you available?
I am very flexible and am available Monday - Saturday, during the day or early evening. I am happy to continue with sessions during school holidays. Please feel free to contact me for up-to-date availability.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
Tutees tend to be between the ages of 16-19. However, I have also tutored adults.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
A Level Psychology
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes. Most recent certificate issued on 20 January 2017. Evidence can be provided upon request from a tutee or parent.
Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I use Skype for online tutoring. My bespoke, personally created, interactive learning resources are emailed to a tutee prior to each session. Assessments, mock exams etc. are emailed to me, then marked in line with mark schemes, annotated with detailed, constructive feedback and emailed back to the tutee. I have been lucky enough to have been able to support online learners living in Malta, France, Greece, Spain, Guernsey, Southampton, Swindon, Oxford, Norwich, Devon, Nottingham, Kent and Sussex. All tutees are invited to access my online classrooms which include a wealth of learning resources enabling independent recapping of learning on any mobile device, at any time, day or night.
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
British Psychological Society: Graduate Member.
Institute for Learning.
Where and with whom did you train?
I gained my BSc (Hons) Psychology from Staffordshire University (1997 – 2001)
I gained my PGCE from Manchester Metropolitan University (2004-2005)
Certificated evidence can be provided upon request from a tutee or parent.
Tell me about some of your current students.
In addition to tutees who I have tutored face-to-face, I have also tutored learners via Skype both from wider areas within the UK and abroad (see above). I am currently tutoring some extremely conscientious tutees who are now beginning their transition to year 13. They will be spending part of their summer holidays outside of the UK, but these keen young learners have already requested that we maintain our online sessions as usual during their summer break. Admirable! I enjoy being able to witness tutees of all abilities become more confident in their own academic performance. With an increased confidence, tutees become eager to learn more and the result is that they exceed their own expectations.
Do you have a personal message for students?
My tutoring aims to instill confidence, is stimulating, engaging and always tailored to each tutee's individual needs. I can provide a bespoke service where tutees will receive one-to-one support, my personally created, interactive workbooks, examination papers, mark schemes and other relevant resources. Guidance can also be provided on how to manage revision and workload. I am an enthusiastic communicator, recognised as being a caring, supportive tutor with a passion for Psychology and a desire to see each and every student succeed.
