Personal Message
I'm a full-time professional musician and experienced instrumental teacher. I believe in patient, methodical and thorough learning and I like to instil a passion and enthusiasm for organised practise and engaging performance in my students.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
Classical and Jazz Playing/Improvisation on Saxophone, Clarinet and Piano.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I studied Saxophone at RNCM with Rob Buckland. I was a Joint Course student, so also gained a degree in academic music (with composition specialism) at University of Manchester. I then went on to Study Jazz as a Post graduate with Steve Berry and Tim Garland.
What kind of experience do you have?
I am an experienced teacher of both Classical and Jazz on all the above instruments. I have a 100% pass rate record for ABRSM exams, and my teaching CV includes teaching from beginner to University/Conservatoire level. I have extensive experience of preparing students for Conservatoire auditions, for both Classical and Jazz courses. I am Saxophone tutor at The University of Liverpool and Liverpool Hope University.

My professional work as a performer includes (Woodwinds and Piano) Pop/Jazz session work, theatre, Orchestral and Original recording/composing all over the world. This experience informs my teaching in a huge way. Its important to me to be able to relate everything I teach students to 'real world' skills needed for all musicians, whether aspiring to professional careers, or to a high level of playing/performing for pleasure alone.
How much do you charge?
£30 p/hour at my home, £35 to come to you. I do consultation lessons for Half price. Many of my students pay for lessons on a monthly basis in 4 lesson blocks, but I also see students on a pay per lesson basis. I am happy to see adult students on a fortnightly basis but I don't think this works well for the majority of child learners.
Where do you teach?
I'm happy to teach students in the Greater Manchester area, as well as Stockport, High Peak and Wigan as I currently have students there. I can also see students in Liverpool if these lessons are during the day as I can co-ordinate this with my teaching at the University.

Otherwise, I have a fully equipped teaching space in my home, with recording facilities, acoustic piano and coffee machine!
When are you available?
Weekdays and more flexible during School Holidays.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I've taught all ages from 5/6 years to Adult, to any level.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
ABRSM Practical Exams
ABRSM Jazz Exams
ABRSM Theory
Higher Education Course Auditions
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I can give skype lessons by arrangement, providing a direct debit or BACS is set up and payment is recieved before the lesson commences.
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
Musicians Union
Where and with whom did you train?
RNCM. I studied with Rob Buckland, Carl Raven, Julian Arguelles, Steve Berry and Tim Garland. After leaving college I was mentored by Iain Dixon and Ben Wendel.
Tell me about some of your current students.
I have a varied collection of students of different levels and ages. I've had 4 students reach success in UK Conservatoire Under Graduate Auditions and 2 for Conservatoire Jazz Course auditions. I also have a big cohort of young students at the grade 4-6 levels on Sax, Piano, Flute and Clarinet.
