Welcome! Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I am a woodwind specialist, so teach saxophone, clarinet, oboe and flute, in both classical and jazz styles. I also teach the piano.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, achieving a first class undergraduate degree and a Performance Recital Diploma for outstanding final recital performance. I also completed a masters degree at the Guildhall, supported by scholarships from the Countess of Munster Trust and the Guildhall School.
What kind of experience do you have?
As well as teaching privately for many years, I have wide experience as a visiting instrumental tutor at numerous state and private schools, music services and music schools across London, teaching students ranging from age 7 to adult, and from complete beginner to post-grade 8 level. I am currently visiting woodwind teacher at Northwood College and Edge Grove School in north west London. As a freelance performer I have worked with a very wide range of artists and groups including Britten Sinfonia, Paul Weller, National Theatre, Public Service Broadcasting, Magnetic North, Kaleidoscope Quartet and numerous theatre pit orchestras across the UK and in the west end.
How much do you charge?
I charge £40 per hour for lessons at my home.
Where do you teach?
I teach from my home in Apsley, Hemel Hempstead, and am happy to welcome students from further afield including north west London and wider Hertfordshire. I am occasionally able to travel to students for one-off lessons, but rates for these will vary depending on location.
When are you available?
Although my schedule can vary depending on freelance commitments, I am generally available weekday evenings, and some daytimes and weekends.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I am happy to teach all ages and abilities. I regularly work with adults and children of all ages, and welcome complete beginners as well as advanced students and anyone in between!
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I regularly enter students for ABRSM and Trinity practical exams, as well as performance requirements for GCSE and A Level music exams.
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes, I have an enhanced DBS from working in schools, and subscribe to the update service.
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am a member of the Musicians' Union.
Where and with whom did you train?
I studied at the Guildhall School, where I learned with some of the UK's leading musicians, who perform regularly with the UK's top orchestras, as leading soloists, top jazz and recording artists and composers. They include Christian Forshaw and John Harle (saxophone), Nick Moss (clarinet and flute), Mick Foster (jazz) and Alison Teale (oboe).
Tell me about some of your current students.
Current students range from complete beginners right up to diploma-level.
