Personal Message
I truly believe that music is one of the most person-rounding subjects one can study. It teaches so many life-skills such as teamwork, listening, cooperation, dedication, perseverance. All so valuable to all professions.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach bassoon (and contrabassoon), classical singing, music theory and music aural. I can also tutor people on how to effectively use the notation software Sibelius.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a BMus (Hons) from Guildhall School of Music and Drama. I have been a freelance musician for 8+ years.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have been teaching in prep-schools in Kent and Sussex for 4 years and have seen pupils through from beginners to music scholars at leading prep schools. I have taught privately too and I am comfortable teaching all ages. As a performer, I have played in professional chamber music groups and orchestras as well as a soloist. I also sing as both a choral singer and on the operatic stage.
How much do you charge?
For all subjects (bar Sibelius tution) I charge £40/hr. This is inclusive of nearby travel.
Where do you teach?
I can teach at home (Tunbridge Wells) or I can come to you, I am pretty flexible.
When are you available?
My schedule is vary varied and is only governed by whatever contract I may be currently on. Usually my availability is good.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I can teach from beginner to advanced in all disciplines.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
Usually ABRSM. Not exclusively, though.
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians (ISM).
Where and with whom did you train?
At the Guildhall I studied Bassoon with Daniel Jemison (Co-Principal, London Symphony Orchestra), Helen Simons (Royal Philharmonic Orchestra) and Martin Field (Royal Opera House Orchestra). I study singing with Linda Hutchison and many other coaches and tutors.
Tell me about some of your current students.
I have students who have become scholars at prep schools such as Stowe School and Tonbridge.
Do you have a personal message for students?
I'm very keen to hear from anybody who wants to study any of these instruments. I have a passion for them all and want to get others feeling the same way. Don't worry if you're a beginner or don't feel very confident about your playing, I'm here to help. Really look forward to hearing from you.
