Personal Message
I am an Edinburgh based violin teacher. In my violin lessons I aim to teach overall musicality as well as how to play the violin and read music. Happy to teach pupils just for fun, or to work towards exams.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach Classical violin.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a Bachelor of Music and a Higher National Certificate in Music. I studied teaching as part of my degree course.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have been teaching for over 8 years. I have experience of teaching a variety of different levels from total beginners to Grade 6 standard and a variety of ages, both children and adults. With my youngest pupils I use Stringbabies, which is a very gentle and effective way of teaching very young children how to play the violin and read music.
How much do you charge?
I charge £30 for an hour's lesson or £15 for a half hour lesson. With child pupils I start with 20 minute lessons which are £10 each.
Where do you teach?
I teach at my flat in Bruntsfield which is a short distance from Polwarth, Morningside and Marchmont.
When are you available?
I am available during the day and evening on Monday, during the day on Wednesday and am available until 7 on Thursday. I work to the school year but am happy to give lessons through the summer holidays if desired.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I will teach all ages. At the moment I aim to teach beginners and intermediates.
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes.
Where and with whom did you train?
I studied at Napier University, first with Roger Foxwell and later with Peter Campbell-Kelly.
