Personal Message
I'm a friendly and experienced professional singer, singing with a variety of opera companies and professional choirs. I believe that no matter the style of singing, strong vocal technique is essential for success.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach Singing in a variety of styles, from classical to pop, rock and music theatre. I also teach Music Theory, Harmony, Aural and Practical Musicianship, and tutor students for their GCSE and A Level examinations.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a 1st Class hons. Degree in Music from the University of York, and both MPerf and MMus in Vocal Performance from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have taught both in schools and privately for many years, and I have a 100% success rate - all of my students not only pass exams but excel, often achieving Merits or Distinctions. I use the ABRSM and Trinity Guildhall Boards as well as Music Theatre board.
I currently teach singing at The Dragon School, Pinewood School and at d'Overbroecks, Oxford. I also taught singing and music theory at the Purcell School of Music for 2 years as well as working as their Outreach Coordinator, running music workshops and tours all over the country.

As a professional singer I perform regularly with ensembles such as BBC Singers, London Voices, RSVP, Philharmonia Voices and a cappella group Bellaphonics. Career highlights include solos with Birmingham Opera Company in Stockhausen’s Mittwoch aus Licht directed by Graham Vick, film soundtracks (including Interstellar, Maleficent, The Hobbit and Hunger Games series) and I have performed solo twice at the Wigmore Hall as part of the Voiceworks contemporary music series. Opera credits include Amastris in Handel's Xerxes, Dido in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, The Mother in Menotti's Amahl and the Night Visitors, Julia Bertram in Jonathan Dove’s Mansfield Park, both Annina and Flora in Verdi's La Traviata, Cherubino in Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro, and last summer I originated the role of Stephanie in Evariste, performed at Somerset House and the Tete-a-Tete festival 2015.
Most recently I have been touring with Opera Anywhere, performing the roles of Pitti-Sing in The Mikado, Edith in Pirates of Penzance, and 2nd Lady/2nd Boy in Mozart's the Magic Flute, and I am currently preparing the role of Marc Antonio for a production of Marc Antonio e Cleopatra with Ensemble Serse, London.
How much do you charge?
I charge £35 per hour (£20 per half hour) if you come to my home. If I am travelling to you I sometimes charge travel, depending on how far it is!
Where do you teach?
I usually teach at my home in East Oxford, though I am willing to travel around the city.
When are you available?
I teach during the week in both the day time and the evening, and I am also available some weekends.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I have experience teaching all ages - from age 3-90! Everyone is welcome, and no previous experience is required.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
It would depend on the needs and wishes of the student. In the past I have prepared my students for ABRSM and Trinity Guildhall grades, Music Theatre grades, and for entry into Music colleges and theatre schools. I also don't pressure my students into having to take grades if they just want to sing for fun!
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes I have an up to date DBS (Sept.2016)
Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I do online tutoring for music theory and GSCE/A Level music. I do a combination of skyping lessons and I will also send you worksheets to do and then we can work through them together.
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
Where and with whom did you train?
I currently study with Theresa Goble of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
I have previously studied with Kathleen Livingstone of the RAM and RCM. When I was at York I studied with Lynne Dawson and Jacqui Edwards.
