Personal Message
Want to learn to sing? Looking to further your current singing abilities? Need to prepare for an audition? Whatever your needs, I am refreshingly positive and will make your lessons fun!
Which subject(s) do you teach?
Although my specialist area is classical singing I offer tuition and coaching in all styles (classical, opera, pop, musical theatre, jazz or crossover). I am approachable, easy going and although my aim is to always have fun in the lesson, I will push you within set boundaries, in order to achieve the right results.

Above all else I nurture and encourage my students with their music making and I strive to provide a relaxed yet focused environment where you will fulfil your potential.
Tell me about your qualifications.
Trinity College of Music - BMus (Hons) Vocal Performance & RSCM Choirboy of the Year 1992
What kind of experience do you have?
I won the last ever RSCM Choirboy of the Year competition as a child. This led to 4 years of performing as soloist (before my voice broke) at renowned venues such as The Barbican, The Royal Albert Hall, St John's Smith Square, Houses of Parliament and on TV and Radio broadcasts such as Songs of Praise. I was one of the first performers to feature on Classic FM and recorded 4 CDs during this period. I was preparing for a solo tour across France when my voice started to break so this was sadly cancelled!

In my career as a Baritone, I have had the pleasure of working with prolific Musicians and Directors such as Sir Charles Mackerras (dec'd), Suzi Digby OBE, Terry Edwards, David Hill, Howard Blake, Robert Hollingworth, Mary King, Stuart Barr, Helen Yorke, William McVicker, Stephen Jackson & Andrew Sinclair, singing with the BBC Singers and Royal Opera House chorus in concerts and performances in and around London. I regularly sing with some of the leading London church choirs such as St Paul's Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, Southwark Cathedral & Westminster Cathedral and hold a regular position as 'Gentleman of the Chapel Royal Choir' at Hampton Court Palace.
How much do you charge?
I offer two rates for lessons. £20 for 30 mins and £40 for a 1 hour lesson.
Where do you teach?
Although my preference is to teach from my home I am happy to travel a certain distance for no extra charge.
When are you available?
My teaching schedule varies from week to week due to my own singing work but I am available most days and evenings.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I enjoy teaching at all levels regardless of ability or experience, however I do not teach children under the age of 11 (around secondary school age).
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I draw from a wide range of sources and techniques; those which I have learnt from previous and present teachers. I will match the relevant technique to work flexibly with your aspirations/goals. I never like to force a specific pathway as no two students work in exactly the same way. I prefer to find out an individual's passions and desires through discussion and trial based method, which inevitably leads onto a more directed and productive route. My teaching method is a combination of good, solid technique and an understanding and appreciation of the physicality required from the body.

I have successfully coached students through examinations including the ABRSM and Trinity syllabuses and hold the position of Vocal Coach to the Minster Choristers at Whitgift School, South Croydon.
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Extended DBS check carried out 2016 and update service paid for annually.
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am a member of the AOTOS (Association of Teachers of Singing), the Musicians Union and the British Voice Association.
Where and with whom did you train?
John Wakefield and Helen Yorke - Trinity College of Music; Ryland Davies - Royal Academy of Music; Mary King - Private tuition; Linda Hirst - Private tuition; David & Hilary Hill - Winchester Cathedral; Arwel Treharne Morgan - Private tuition, London.
Do you have a personal message for students?
Whatever your current level of musicianship is and whatever level you want to achieve, I will strive to make sure you enjoy your singing!
