Personal Message
Hello! I'm a teacher with a passion for creating an environment that allows my students to uncover their true voice through safe technique, confidence, freedom and musical expression. I'm also a professional vocalist working throughout Europe.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
Singing, healthy and sustainable vocal technique, breathing, music and song.
Tell me about your qualifications.
Dartington College of Arts: BA Music (Performance)
Goldsmiths College: MMus Creative Practice
Dancing Voice, Singing Body- Meredith Monk Masterclass, Paris
Estill training with Charlotte Shorthouse and Anne-Marie Speed, London
What kind of experience do you have?
I have been teaching for nine years, with students of all levels of experience. I teach very often one-to-one, and also in group settings, running various workshops for adults and children, as well as for theatre groups and undergraduate final performances. I also give lectures and performance workshops on the voice module for 2nd year degree students at Falmouth University's Music Degree in Cornwall.
How much do you charge?
I charge £30 per hour. I offer concessions for people on a low income.
Where do you teach?
I teach at home in Hither Green, South East London, and can travel to students homes throughout London and the neighbouring areas. For example New Cross, Greenwich, Catford, Lewisham, North London, East London and West London, South London, Stoke Newington, Angel, Archway, Camden, Wapping, Blackheath, Telegraph Hill, Dalston, London Bridge, Sydenham, Forest Hill, Brockley, Peckham, Dulwich, etc. Hither Green is well connected to London Bridge Station, Charing Cross, Waterloo, and there are a lot of buses through to Lewisham, Camberwell, etc.
When are you available?
I am flexible, weekdays and weekends are all possible, daytime and evening.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all ages and levels.
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
Skype lessons can be arranged.
Where and with whom did you train?
I studied for my degree in music at Dartington College of Arts, and completed my Masters in music at Goldsmiths College. I have studied Masterclasses with Meredith Monk and Maggie Nicols. I also draw from my training in the Estill technique levels 1&2 to provide the necessary physiological tools to use the voice healthily and freely. I have been coaching students vocally for eight years. I also hold grade 8 in singing. As a performer I gig with my solo songs, and in group work, at venues such as The Vortex, Cafe Oto, The ICA, The National Portrait Gallery, The Purcell Room and on Resonance FM.
Do you have a personal message for students?
I believe in creating a safe and nurturing environment in which you can discover your voice through song, breathing and vocal exercises and whole vocal and body awareness. We will develop your technique and confidence in singing and uncover skills and knowledge for all areas of music and sound-making: from jazz and pop to classical, folk, experimental, rock, improvisation and beyond!
