Hello. I'm Alex, songsmith and singer of underground punk rock antiheroes Wonk Unit. I'm also a creative writer, skateboarder, artist, producer and record label owner.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
Songwriting and song production. Finding the correct key, vocal projection, getting the most out of your lyrics.

I can also help you with event/festival management, tour booking and label management.

I can also teach skateboarding.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I have no formal qualificatons in music, however I strongly believe you do not need to have studied music to achieve success.
I currently have 6 Wonk Unit albums in print and digital, all selling.
My record label PLASTERER is now on its 14th release.
What kind of experience do you have?
25 years of fronting bands and releasing numerous albums, recording and developing songs, touring, managing musicians, dealing with record labels and working in the music industry has giving me a hands on knowledge of all things "rock n roll".

From my home in West Wickham (also where my private skateboard bowl is) and online via Skype/ Facetime. I travel to most places in the Greater London area. Travel expenses will be added on top of my £30 per hour tuition fee.

As a touring musician, there will be periods when I am not available. I am however committed to my students and will always make up lessons. In general I am available Monday to Friday from 8am - 8pm.

Do you have a personal message for students?
Songwriting is all about being honest. It's such a rewarding freedom to get those emotions out of your soul, onto the page and then out to audiences. I want to hear "you", not who you want to be. Songwriting can be an anarchy, a contradiction, there's no real set patterns. What works once may not work again. Some songs are almost "god given". They'll appear out of nowhere and be done and dusted in 5 minutes, some songs take years (where the basic idea is great but the state of mind isn't quite right to complete the work). We'll look into all of this. Songwriting can be happy and fun but also the saddest, most cathartic experience. A history, a document of time in your life.
