Personal Message
Having lived in various places across the world, I now enjoy sharing my experiences to enthuse and motivate others to acquire language skills alongside cultural awareness, whether that be for pleasure, work or examinations.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
My main subject is Spanish, which I teach to primary, secondary, sixth form and adult learners, including university students. I also teach English as a Foreign Language (EFL) and can help work towards exams such as the IELTS. It doesn't matter if you are just starting out with your Spanish or English or if you want help with a certain area of language learning. I adapt lessons to suit your goals and am happy to adjust and advise as we move forward.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I am currently working towards my Masters in Education and I have a BA (Hons) in European Languages and Business with a distinction in spoken Spanish. I also have QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) and Trinity TEFL qualification.
What kind of experience do you have?
I began my teaching career in specialist English Language Academies in the UK, Spain and Vietnam, where I taught English to both adults and younger learners. In 2006 I moved back to the UK to complete my teaching training to teach Spanish and French in mainstream education. Since receiving my Qualified Teacher Status I have taught Spanish and French to students aged 8-18 in a variety of settings including an international school in Malaysia and an independent school in Hampshire. Most recently I have been working in Gloucestershire as Head of Languages in a secondary school.
How much do you charge?
The first lesson is free and will include a consultation about your goals and current level of ability. Booking blocks of lessons attract a discount.
Where do you teach?
I mainly teach online but will happily travel to homes around the Cheltenham, Gloucester or Stroud area.
When are you available?
I am available weekdays from 9am - 8pm and Saturday mornings 9am-12pm.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach KS3-5 plus adults.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I prepare students for GCSEs, A Levels, Degrees and English Language exams, such as IELTS.
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes, it is dated August 2016.
Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I use Skype as the communication platform so you will need to have access to a Skype account for all online lessons. I often share documents via Skype but I also use Google Docs so having a Google Docs account is also important. This means both of us can use and adapt a document at the same time plus you get to keep it in a safe place to review at a later date.
Where and with whom did you train?
I did a Graduate Teacher Programme with the Cambridge Partnership which led to QTS.
Do you have a personal message for students?
It is very rewarding when you progress with a language and when you receive personalised lessons progress can be fast. By scheduling a free trial session we can meet and discuss your goals. Don't worry if you find it difficult to speak in English, I'm a language teacher so my job is to help you improve! I will give you a short sample lesson so you can decide if you wish to continue with our lessons. Please be honest about your language learning as this will help me personalise your lessons to the best of my ability.
