About Steven
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have been a classroom modern languages teacher for over 20 years. I ran a franchise of a well known tutoring company for four years. I have been tutoring, in addition to classroom teaching,for well over 15 years. In the 1990's I ran a "Le Club Francais" franchise.

- Where and with whom did you train?
My teacher training was at the University of Hertfordshire.
I have had tutor training with the Kip McGrath organisation. I have also been on the UK state sponsored tutoring scheme.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I have one student who I have now been tutoring for eight years - she has just received an offer from Oxford to study English.

I also teach English as a foreign language.I tutor from my house. I also specialise in teaching over the internet.

I have a joint Honours degree in French and Spanish from Southampton University.
I have a PGCE in Modern Foreign Languages from the University of Hertfordshire.
I have a certificate in teaching maths after school in state secondary schools
- How much do you charge?
£32.50 per hour for GCSE French, Spanish and English.
£32.50 per hour for KS2 and KS3 maths
£35.00 per hour for "A" level French and Spanish.
The first hour is free - I believe that the tutee should decide whether he/she thinks I can help.
Discounts are available for bookings of 10 sessions - please email for details.
Discounts are also available for joint sessions - £20.00 for two students simultaneously.
- Where do you teach?
I tutor in my house in Harpenden. I also tutor online if required.
- When are you available?
Monday to Friday - 9.00am to 7.00pm
Saturdays - 9.00am to 1.00pm
I am available during school holidays, again at mutually convenient times.

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I use Skype for online tuition - this is backed up by establishing a personal website for pupils - all materials (e.g sound files, written work, links to other websites are kept on the password protected website.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
I believe that tutoring should be fun, but at the same time, rigorous. I like to structure an hour's tuition so, at the end, the student really feels as if he/she has benefited, I enjoy those "so that's why it's like that" moments. Each hour of tuition is a small step towards a key goal - for example, an exam. Fun, focus, rigour - these three words sum it up.
