Highly qualified and very experienced tutor. Former teacher-trainer, examiner and moderator. Author of EFL and language-learning books.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
English as a Foreign Language
Tell me about your qualifications.
BA (IIi) Russian Studies with German from University of Leeds. MA with Distinction from UCL in Russian Studies. Post-Graduate Certificate of Education. RSA Certificate in TEFL.
What kind of experience do you have?
Over 30 years' experience teaching at secondary school, FE and university level, also in adult education. I am also a former teacher-trainer in the tertiary and adult education sectors.
How much do you charge?
£45 per hour, plus travel.
Where do you teach?
At students' home or workplace, or at a mutually convenient coffee bar or similar location. In and around the Guildford area. I can sometimes travel further afield (over 10 miles), for which travel expenses are charged.
When are you available?
Most days and early evenings.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
When teaching English I specialise in teaching advanced levels. Most of my students already speak very good English but want to polish their writing or presenting skills. I am experienced at teaching all levels, however, and have prepared students over the past thirty years for most exams.
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I have Skype, a good computer, and a webcam.
Do you belong to any professional organisations?

Tell me about some of your current students.
A number of my students are business executives, who need to write reports for their work, and I help them to polish and hone their written English. I also tutor university teachers of English in universities abroad, who want to keep up a high standard of English, or who ask me to check their work, or answer questions they have about high-level grammar or other points.
