About Tim
- What kind of experience do you have?
Having held a number of teaching positions, most notabIy at King's School, Rochester, and the American School, St John's Wood, in London, I've since set up my own private piano teaching practice from my home in North West London, where I've taught students right across the spectrum, from 4 1/2-year-olds through to senior citizens! With over 30 years' teaching experience (I'm still amazingly young), I've taught both complete beginners, pop stars, lawyers and BBC producers. But whatever your ability and age, my aim has always been the same: to approach the lessons in a fun and friendly way, to enable you, long-term, to be able to teach yourself how to play, to learn the skill that will give both you and those around you, pleasure for life. Check out my on-going series of YouTube videos on The Basics Of Piano Playing in association with Rowland and Pianist magazine.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Enhanced CRB certificate
- Where and with whom did you train?
Professor Malcolm Wilson (former Head of Birmingham Conservatoire); Margaret Newman (Birmingham Conservatoire); David Ponsford (Harpsichord), Birmingham Conservatoire; Philip Fowke (privately), former Head of Keyboard, Trinity College of Music, London. Masterclasses with Joseph Weingarten (student of Bartok and Kodaly).
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
Full ISM member
- Tell me about some of your current students.
My current students range in age from 6 through to 46, from complete beginners through to music scholarship. They are highly intelligent, unusual in their own inimitable ways, and all a pleasure to teach.

Younger students and their parents always come for a non-obligatory consultation and chat (£45) in which I will explain my teaching philosophy and advice on how best to proceed.
- Where do you teach?
From my home/studio in North West London. I do, however, have a small team of excellent teaching assistants who can travel on my behalf, currently teaching in South, South West and West London.

Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
I feel incredibly lucky to have found Tim. I was looking for a teacher to introduce the piano to my five-year-old son, and although lots of teachers sound promising on their websites it's near impossible to know whether they'll be any good without a personal recommendation. From the moment I met Tim I knew he'd be perfect. It's no surprise that he's so much in demand!
Tim has taught my son Joseph from the age of 7. Now 15 years old, Tim has taken him progressively through the grades and nurtured in him a fantastic love of music so that he happily takes himself to the piano and plays for pleasure for himself. Its wonderful to see.
Tim is a fabulous teacher, and I have really progressed in the time he has been teaching me.
Tim is a cool teacher!
I have been playing the piano with Tim for 2 years. If you get stuck on something he will help you and encourage you. Tim is a great and SUPERB teacher.
