I helped a Birkbeck, University of London, student with their "Quantitative Techniques for Financial Engineering course

I helped a Russell Group university student with their Third Year Group Theory course.

I have helped several students with their Open University degrees in mathematics. - Do you have a personal message for students?
- I strongly believe that a good grade for A level maths is within most people's reach, so long as you get a good grasp of the concepts, and practice enough relevant questions, especially exam-type questions. In my lessons, a student has no option but to get involved, thinking, and solving problems. I find this very effective in getting the student to gain understanding relatively quickly and comfortably. By obtaining regular feedback from my students, I ensure that the student is learning. I try to adapt my teaching style to the student's learning style.

## Maths for Aliens of The 2- or 3-Fingered Variety

(This refers to my article "Felix and the Two-Fingered Alien") Humans count in units, tens, hundreds (100=10x10), thousands (1000=10x10x10) and so on. Similarly, the blue two-fingered alien counts in units, twos, fours (4=2x2), eights (8=2x2x2), sixteens (16=2x2x2x2) and so on. The yellow three-fingered alien counts in units, threes, nines...

## Felix & The Two-Fingered Alien (Sometimes 1+1=10)

It had been a long evening, sagging under the huge amount of maths homework Felix had struggled with before going to bed. But night had come, as usual, and Feilx had succumbed to the dark mothering hand of sleep, glad to forget about maths for a while. In the middle of the night, Felix suddenly woke up. The moonlight had thrown a gauzy...

## Where is Number 7?

Where is number 7? No, this is not the beginning of a spy novel, but a question philosophers have been asking for over two thousand years. Does the number 7, along with all the other natural numbers (1,2,3,4........), exist independently of rational minds, perhaps in some separate realm? Or is the number 7 a kind of concept we develop as a...

### My Testimonials

At first I was having trouble with maths and found it to be my hardest subject. However, after I finished my A2 exams, my highest grade was in maths, and it helped me get into university. She was a very kind and helpful teacher, and I found the teaching very useful and detailed! - Bryan |

I was very happy with the way Miriam taught me. She demonstrated extraordinary patience in explaining and re-explaining concepts I found hard to grasp. Her kindness and pleasant demeanour meant I always felt comfortable and relaxed around her no matter how stressed I was about my studies. She effectively guided me throught the theoretical side of each unit, and also covered their practical applications in exam questions. I am very glad I found her when I did. - Tamara |

Miriam has helped me understand better concepts and ideas I was struggling with in maths. As a result I achieved a B in C1 and S1, which looked out of my reach before getting Miriam's help. She interacted well with me to understand what was holding me back so I could improve. Miriam has been a pleasure to work with and I look forward to further tuition from her in the future. - G.S. |

I havd had Miriam as my maths tutor for over 3 years now and I love working with her. I have recommended her to friends as I believe she is a great mathematician as well as being very inspriring. The methods she uses are great and easy to understand and what's more is, they are exactly what is required by the exam boards. The one on one sessions are great for catch up on the exact areas I do not feel confident on, and you can always choose the pace at which the lessons go. - P.S. |

My son was tutored in A level maths by Miriam for approximately 6 months. During this short period. Miriam made a huge difference to my son's final grade and I would certainly recommend Miriam to any parent or student who needs to improve their maths standard. Without a doubt, Miriam has the ability to teach/tutor to a very high standard. - J.D. |

Miriam helped me immensely to achieve an A grade in the OCR Additional Maths Qualification.
