Personal Message
I am a qualified, experienced teacher of Modern Foreign Languages (French and German) and English, with many years' experience in one-to-one tuition and helping students prepare for exams.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach German, French and English. I specialise in preparing students for GCSE, AS level and A level exams in German and French. I teach English at Key Stages 1, 2 and 3 and at GCSE (both language and literature); I also teach English as a Foreign Language. At Key Stage 2, I specialise in preparing students for their year 6 SATs in English, i.e. the SPaG (spelling, punctuation and grammar) and reading tests. I also help prepare students for the English/comprehension/verbal reasoning components of 11+ exams. I teach both English language and English literature at GCSE.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a PhD in the field of cognitive linguistics, an MA in Linguistics and a BA (Double Hons) in Modern Languages (French and German). I also have a PGCE (Secondary) in Modern Foreign Languages (German and French). I gained QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) in 2001.
What kind of experience do you have?
I am a qualified teacher, and have several years' experience of teaching French and German at secondary schools in the UK. I also spent two years teaching English in schools in France and Germany. In addition, I spent a number of years teaching German language and linguistics at Manchester University and Manchester Metropolitan University. I also have experience of working as an English tutor in schools in Manchester, teaching English language and literature at Key Stage 3 and GCSE.
How much do you charge?
I charge £32 per hour for one-to-one tuition.
Where do you teach?
I teach at my home in Didsbury in south Manchester. I would be willing to travel (at no extra charge) to the student's home for day-time (school hours) tuition on weekdays, if that was in a nearby location, such as West Didsbury, Chorlton, Withington, Burnage, Cheadle, Heaton Mersey, etc.
When are you available?
I am available in the evenings (after school) and at weekends. I also have some day-time (school hours) availability. I have plenty of availability in the school holidays and can schedule extra sessions in the holidays if required by the student.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all ages and all levels. For French and German, I specialise in teaching secondary school students and helping them prepare for GCSE and A level examinations. For English, I help year 5/6 students prepare for key stage 2 SATs in English (SPaG and reading tests), and I also tutor year 5/6 students in preparation for the English/comprehension/verbal reasoning components of 11+ exams. In addition, I help prepare GCSE students for their English language and literature exams.
