About Anna
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have taught viola, violin and piano students for the last 5 years. Some student successes include a position in the NCO, ABRSM grade exam success. I have also had experience working with beginners of these instruments. I have had a lot of experience in assisting practice and how to use practice time economically.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I am in the process of getting a DBS, having had a few in the past this is for having had a lot of experience working and being in an environment with children. I have also been involved in projects at School with Music in the Community, and have performed in Care homes for the Elderly. I have also taken modules in 'advanced creative music leadership' which involves working with people of all abilities in workshops at their schools or education centers.
- Where and with whom did you train?
I have just completed a year of studying post- Bachelor at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with violist Majorlein Dispa. Prior to this I studied under scholarship at the Royal a Academy of Music, London majoring in viola with Jon Thorne, where I received further studying awards. My training started as a chorister from the age of 6, and went on to become head-chorister, at York Minster Girls Choir. From this I received a very high level of vocal training and music education and went on to receive a major music scholarship to study at Oakham School under violinist Martin Cropper.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I currently teach a 7-year-old beginner violinist who loves to learn very creatively. Many of the exercises and pieces we play have a personal touch that make her excited to study further in the week and perform. I could tell many stories and exciting examples of times with students, however the emphasis is in creating a unique studying environment for each pupil.

I am very enthusiastic about teaching. My aim is to both help the student to achieve their potential technically and also to explore and nurture their own creativity to attain maximum enjoyment from the music.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach piano, viola and violin. I have thorough instrumental training from a young age.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
During school studies I achieved high distinction in ABRSM grade 8 voice (soprano), piano and viola. I further attained a distinction in the ABRSM Diploma on the viola. I then studied under scholarship on the Bachelor of Music course at the Royal Academy of Music, London. After a year of further study at the Conservatorium of Amsterdam, I am returning to York to live full-time.
- How much do you charge?
Lesson price: £25 for 45 mins, £30/hour
Group lesson (no more than 2 privately): £15/ 30 mins each
- Where do you teach?
I teach at home on Shipton Road, York. If you live further out and would prefer to make a separate arrangement that would is possible, however depending on the distance may mean a small travel expense on top of the intial fee.
- When are you available?
I am able to teach throughout the week, whether it is after school,or in the morning or evening. As I am also a performing musician I will have occasional changes in schedule which Students would be notified of well in advance, but normally a regular time each week/two weeks for a student will be arranged.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I am willing and enthusiastic to teach any age age and level. If the student has specific goals in mind that they would like to work towards then this will be the aim of the lessons, however every individual is different so I might recommend and discuss the goals with the student/parent, depending on their stage of development.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I can prepare the students for abrsm exams 1-8 (or the board they are wanting to attain grades from). I am also very happy to teach beginners.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
If you are interested and love playing music, whatever type it may be, I hope I can work with you to help increase this. Through training your ears and fingers side by side, you will find learning an instrument gives you many other skills. My ultimate goal is be able to help my students to feel confident in their playing and conveying of musical ideas, and also to have an open-mind and curiosity that will enable them to enjoy performing music to the best of their ability. I really look forward to meeting you!
