Hi, well done for making the first step - studying music/languages is fulfilling and something which can benefit all areas of your life.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
Music (violin, viola, piano, theory, history) and Languages (English and Spanish as a foreign language)
Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a BMus degree (II,i) from The University of Leeds, I have a CELTA, and I completed the Trinity KS2 CPD for Teacher training.
I am also working for the ABRSM in a research capacity regarding music education for children.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have been teaching music privately for over a decade, I have worked for two local authorities, BYMT and LMS and I have also worked for various academies. I took the CELTA two years ago and have been teaching English since then privately and also at BELS academy in Malta. As a performer, I have freelanced for many years, I have played regularly with orchestras such as the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, L'orchestre du Centre Philharmonique and St. Paul's Sinfonia. I have played with Joseph Calleja and for Angelina Jolie. For more information, please see my website
On the piano, I regularly accompany my students for exams and concerts and play the organ for church services.
I have completed teacher training courses for Trinity & Guildhall and regularly attend Teacher Conferences in order to keep up to date with pedagogy.
How much do you charge?
I charge £38/hour as recommended by the Musician's Union. If it is required that I travel to the student's home then I would require travel/time fee. Two students an hour = £60. Four students at a time is my maximum.
Where do you teach?
I have a dedicated music room to teach in, equipped with a piano, desk, stands and vast musical repertoire and I prefer to teach from there. I live in Beckenham, very near Penge / Sydenham / Crystal Palace.
When are you available?
At the moment I have a couple of hours spare. My schedule is flexible, some students come regularly at the same day/time but some arrange weekly. I'm happy to be flexible so please don't hesitate to contact me for any enquiries.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I have taught children from 5 years of age to adults of 60 years of age. I have taught from beginner to post-grade 8 (music), and for English from absolute beginners to advanced business.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
Music - ABRSM Grades GCSEs, Music Medals, A-Levels,
English - IELTS
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I am not currently teaching for the local authorities as I have not had time this year, however in all previous years I have had a DBS (CRB) and I have just applied for a portable one to start from January as I will probably work for some schools next year
Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
Flexible. Thus far most of my online tutoring has been for music theory, we have exchanged documents with corrections.
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
The Musician's Union
Where and with whom did you train?
After University, I had tuition with Ofer Faulk (Leader of the Allegri Quartet), Dona Lee Croft (Soloist and Professor at The Royal College of Music) and Cynthia Fleming (Leader of the BBC Concert Orchestra. I have also attended teacher conferences (ABRSM) as part of my Continued Professional Development training and I have also completed the Trinity & Guildhall KS2 Music Teaching course.
I have also completed the CELTA training and taught in English schools in Malta and Spain.
Tell me about some of your current students.
I now have a number of students who have been coming to me for many years. Sadly I will miss them soon as they will be going to University but it has been wonderful to see them progress from wide-eyed beginners to the mature students they are today.
