Learn all about business finance with the help of a Superprof tutor

Finding the Perfect Finance Tutor in Leeds

Money makes the world go round and we all make financial decisions almost every day of our lives. Whether you're wanting to handle your money better, invest, or get work in finance, accounting, business, management, or economics, studying finance can be a great decision for students and professionals alike.

Let's see the reasons you should study finance or accounting, the challenges you may face, what you can learn about it whilst at school, and how you can make your learning more effective by seeking help from private finance tutors.

Reasons to Study Finance

We already alluded to the fact that there's work for those with finance experience or qualifications. Generally, jobs in finance, accounting, business, and financial management are lucrative and easy to find if you have the right skills and qualifications. Those with a university degree in finance or accounting are very likely to find work with 95% of graduates finding work within six months of graduation and earning an average starting salary of £22k per year.

Outside of work and your career, an education in finance can also help you learn more about money, how to manage it, and how to wisely invest or budget it. This can help you in your everyday life and while you don't necessarily need an undergraduate degree in accounting to effectively manage your money, a sound knowledge of financial management, accounting, or economics can help you be better with money.

Challenges in Finance

Of course, if this was all so easy, all the students at university would be studying business, finance, or economics. There are a few challenges that either stop students from pursuing a career in finance or put them off the idea.

For one, subjects like finance, accounting, and economics all rely heavily on a good understanding of mathematics. Many finance and accounting university courses require an A Level in maths and students will study even more maths once they're on the course. If you don't like numbers or struggle with maths, then these types of subjects mightn't be ideal.

Secondly, it would be safe to argue that while finance and accounting are very important, it's probably not most students' favourite subject. It's quite a dry subject that mightn't suit those who prefer hands-on subjects. Of course, an excellent teacher can bring their subject alive, but not every teacher has the time or resources to make every lesson lively and engaging and a lot of students might prefer other more lively subjects.

Areas of Finance Studied in School

Any students interested in finance and accounting will have opportunities to study them during secondary school before dedicating their studies to them at university. Initially, they won't be able to study them as dedicated subjects but they will get to experience certain concepts and topics in other subjects.

As they're so closely related to maths, there are certain financial topics and notions that they can learn about in their maths classes, but a GCSE in business is probably the first chance they'll get to experience the world of finance and accounting.

During the Business GCSE course, lessons will deal with business in the real world, business operations, human resources, marketing, and finance. The finance part of the course will have students learning about sources of finance, business growth, cash and cash flow, financial terms and calculations, and analysing the financial performance of a business.

By the time students reach A Level, they may have the opportunity to study a Finance A Level before going to university. After some experience with the subject, they should have a better idea of whether or not a degree course is right for them.

Private Finance Tutoring

Whether you're a student or not, you can learn more about finance and accounting from a private tutor. Unlike with a teacher in a  school or university, you'll have more of a say in how and what you're taught. Even the best teacher can't guarantee that their teaching will be adapted to every student in the class or on the course, but with just one student, a private tutor can adapt their services to provide effective learning support to each of their students.

School students can get help with preparing for exams or going over topics that they mightn't have understood in class. Similarly, as the only student in the class, you can know every minute of the hour will be used to help them to learn.

You don't need to be a school or university student to enjoy private tutoring, either. If you're looking to change careers or learn more to advance in your current career, a private tutor can provide tuition adapted to your level that works with your schedule. Not every professional can just take a sabbatical to enrol on a university course for a few years, after all.

Finding a Finance Tutor in Leeds

If you're interested in private tutoring, you can search for finance tutors in Leeds and around Yorkshire on the Superprof website. On each tutor's profile, you can compare experience, education, and fees and also read reviews left by their other students.

A lot of students on the website offer the first hour or session of tutoring for free. You can use these free sessions to try out various tutors before choosing the right one for you or your child.

You can also find online tutors if there aren't any available tutors near you. Online tutors tend to charge less than face-to-face tutors as they don't have to travel and can schedule more sessions each week. While they mightn't be ideal for certain hands-on subjects, tutoring works well with academic subjects like finance and accounting.

For those on a strict budget, group tutorials allow you to share the cost of the tutors time with other students. If you and some classmates, colleagues, or friends are interested in learning about finance or accounting, get in touch with a tutor about group tutorials. While you won't get as much one-on-one time with the tutor, you may be able to pay less per student per hour
