I'm a creative and friendly tutor with a love of music. My lessons centre around making music together, because for me the collaborative aspect of music-making is the most rewarding and enjoyable.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach flute and piano, and my lessons include theory and aural skills so that my students receive a complete musical education.
I am classically trained on both instruments, but I have branched out into other genres so I can teach popular/contemporary styles and improvisation. Usually I combine many genres and styles in my lessons to make things more interesting.
I can help my students to write their own music by assisting with techniques of composition and theory.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a music degree from King's College London (BMus), during which I developed my understanding of the theoretical workings of music and gained plenty of performance experience.
I'm currently completing a specialised woodwind teaching diploma from the Royal Academy of Music (LRAM). This course prompted me to start thinking deeply about the way we teach instruments, and how this can influence an individual's overall experience of music.
What kind of experience do you have?
I've been teaching music privately for four years, working with both children and adults. I'm experienced at tutoring beginners, and at the other end of the scale I'm teaching flute at a post-grade 8 level.
My experiences with a wide range of pupils have helped me to develop effective teaching techniques, and to be imaginative and accommodating as a tutor.
How much do you charge?
£30/hour
Travel costs may be added on, depending on location.
Group discounts are possible.
Where do you teach?
I can travel to students' homes or teach from my flat very near Baker Street station, where I have an electronic piano.
When are you available?
I'm flexible in terms of days and times. I'm happy to teach on weekends and during school holidays.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
All ages and all levels!
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I can prepare students for graded exams (ABRSM or Trinity College), GCSE or A-level performances, auditions, etc.
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes
Where and with whom did you train?
I studied flute with Kate Hill at the Royal Academy of Music as part of my degree.
Do you have a personal message for students?
I have a creative approach to teaching, and I am dedicated to helping my students get a sense of achievement and enjoyment from music. I'm friendly and reliable, so please don't hesitate to contact me with questions or to request references.
