What kind of experience do you have?
For the past five years I have accumulated over 1700 hours of private tuition experience. Most of my work involves bringing struggling students up to speed to pass exams at 11 or 13+. I also specialise in preparing students for scholarships to Eton, St Paul's and Winchester. I occasionally stay with clients for residential work too, usually over the summer. Much of my teaching takes place over Skype and I have students in Japan and Hong Kong as well as London.

How much do you charge?
I charge £50 per hour for all tuition.
Where do you teach?
I teach mainly around west London (Holland Park, South Kensington, Knightsbridge, Battersea, Sloane Square) but travel further during busy times of year. Increasingly my students are opting for tuition over Skype or FaceTime as this makes scheduling lessons far easier.
When are you available?
I am free on weekdays all day for Skype or FaceTime lessons. For in-person lessons I teach mainly after school (4-8pm) and occasionally at weekends. School holidays are also a busy time for me.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
10 and above.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
Common entrance
13+ scholarship
GCSE
AS - A2 level
University entrance and interview preparation
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes. I can also provide references upon request.
Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I use Skype and FaceTime for online tutoring. Also screen sharing with Skype allows me to give slideshows and show diagrams with powerpoint and keynote.
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
No.
Tell me about some of your current students.
An 11 year old student of mine was underperforming in her sciences so we have weekly lesson to boost her confidence and motivation. At first I found she had little interest in working on science but over the past few months I have worked hard to develop her enthusiasm for the subject and her grades are inching up.

I have a 14 year old student preparing to enter the British education system, my job is to bring him up to speed in maths and the sciences IGCSE. Our lessons take place over Skype, I find this can be a highly effective method of teaching especially for encouraging students to take responsibility for their own notes and research.

A 12 year old student of mine found that he fell behind in maths so we are doing weekly lessons in-person to improve his understanding and exam technique. His progress is very encouraging, especieally the improvement in the presentation of his work.

A GCSE student of mine is having weekly Skype lessons so we can explore more advanced topics in maths and science. We frequently find ourselves working on A-Level content or otherwise interesting material which is not on the syllabus.
Do you have a personal message for students?
In physics, understand units. In maths, practise. It is normal to find these subjects hard. They are. But they also make sense; the more time you can devote to them the more surprised you will be by their elegance and your ability.
