A-level Religious Studies

TOP TIPS

Question AO1:

  • Give a concise introduction that clearly signposts what you are going to discuss.
  • Make sure your content is relevant to the question and edited clearly. It should not be everything you know about the topic listed down. Use your time wisely to answer the question precisely.
  • As well as demonstrating your knowledge, try to show you understand the topic by interacting with the material by using technical terms and facts.

Question AO2:

  • This is the question where you are asked to share a critical opinion, so make sure you share an opinion. Even if you don’t feel particularly strongly about the topic, try to show that you take one sides strongly.
  • Also give the other side of the argument and weigh up its relative strengths and weaknesses.
  • Examiners like this answer to be full of opinion, so use quotations, statistics and facts to back up your arguments.
  • If the question is particularly complex, show that this is the case with the range and scope of your answer.
  • As the critical answer, this question needs to have a clear beginning, middle and end. If it does, the examiner will know that you have planned your answer well.

*FINALLY: Bear in mind that examiners are reading up to 40/50 scripts of the same answers in one sitting, which can be quite boring for them... So think about how you can make your answer original and stand out from the crowd.
