There are many different books to select from and if you are a beginner it can be very confusing as they are mostly aimed at young children.

I recommend Chesters Piano for small chidren who like several activities attached to their learning experience.

Adult beginners could try Fanny Waterman's piano lessons and be prepared to work at an unconventional pace. If, for example, you've always wanted to play the blues there are other workbooks that you can dip into but it can become expensive.

Ask your tutor about setting up a book swapping scheme.

Althea Stentiford Piano Teacher (Edinburgh)

About The Author

I have played piano since I was very small. Classical, Modern and now Jazz. I have the experience of seeing my practice benefit my playing and worked towards exams so I full understand that there are highs and lows in learning an instrument. I have been taught by strict tutors, sloppy tutors and genuinely gifted tutors and believe that I have the best elements of all three in a structured lesson.
