I cannot extol the virtues of this man enough, I would have loved to have met him. I particularly like his belief that 'talent is no accident of birth'.
Suzuki devised the 'Mother Tongue' approach to learning the violin: the core concept of this is that students learn how to play by ear before learning how to read music. It just makes such perfect sense! You learn to speak your mother tongue long before you learn to read.
I started learning the violin via the Suzuki Method and this early training - particularly the ability to play 'by ear', has stood me in good stead ever since. To this end I use certain aspects of his method in my own teaching.
