About Catherine
- What kind of experience do you have?
As a performer, I have played with a vast number of orchestras, wind bands, flute choirs, jazz bands and choirs. I have performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival as part of the Rehearsal Orchestra; Buckingham Palace with the National Youth Music Theatre; at The Rose theatre as a pit musician, as a member of a stage band for a musical, as part of the Kingston University Symphony Orchestra and as a solo concerto winner with the Kingston University Chamber Orchestra; The Royal Albert Hall on various occasions; Guildford International Music Festival, performing on flute, with a guitarist; and Ontario Conference Hall, California, with the San Francisco State University. I have toured across the UK as well as around San Francisco and southern California.
I have also worked as a session musician for student projects in the UK and USA and have completed a Masters module in studio production.
I am currently a member of an orchestra in Lewisham, Harmony Sinfonia - (concealed information) as well as being a member of the National Flute Orchestra.
I am the main flute and saxophone player of a band called Kindred Spirit. We play electrifying, contemporary folk/rock music. Please see our website: (concealed information)
As a teacher, I have good experience of teaching privately and in schools, from individual to large class sizes and all age ranges and abilities. I currently teach many yr3/4 pupils how to play the flute and clarinet as part of the First Access Programme. My pupils range from infant school children to those who are retired, from the absolute beginner to post grade 8 standard. I have successfully put through pupils for graded examinations as well as helped out with GCSE performances. I also teach pupils simply for the satisfaction and pleasure of playing an instrument.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes.
- Where and with whom did you train?
My two most recent flute teachers are Debbie Davis, a member of the City of London Sinfonia and Katie Bedford, from the English National Opera. In recent years I have also trained with Linda Lukas, a flautist of the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra and also Matthew Brailsford. I have completed my Masters in Music Performance at the University of Surrey and my undergraduate degree at Kingston University London (with a year abroad at San Francisco State University, California). I now teach full time as a preipatetic teacher, for those in primary school, secondary school and in music centres (adults and ensembles included).
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
Musicians Union; British Flute Society, TES.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I teach students all across Berkshire, Hampshire and Surrey, in schools, music centres and privately in student's homes. I teach individual lessons as well as small and large group lessons. My current students are learning to play one of the following instruments: Flute, soprano / alto / tenor saxophone, clarinet, recorder and fife; their age range spans from as young as 4 up to 60+. I have a 100% pass rate for exams with a majority of students gaining a merit or distinction.

Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
Catherine guided our daughter through the transition from recorder to saxophone. Our daughter found her to be patient, encouraging and able to adapt lessons and practice pieces to suit her pace of learning and maintain her interest.
“I'm not not sure why, at the age of 58, never having played an instrument and unable to read a note of music I dreamt that I could learn to play the saxophone.
I am sure that Catherine's gentle encouragement with strict enforcement when needed is the prime reason why that dream has become a reality.”I searched the Tutor Pages on the internet for a Saxaphone teacher and was given Catherine Dimmock's name.
I contacted her and she has been teaching me once a fortnight since March of this year.
She is a young gifted professional and a very pleasant teacher, and has the patience of a saint. When she plays her Saxaphone or plays along with me it is truly magical.
I would thoroughly recommend her as a teacher and look forward to her lessons.View more recommendations
