About Alejandra
- What kind of experience do you have?
I am a very experienced orchestral and chamber music player. I have been member of the Royal Philharmonic of Galicia from 2011. In 2012 I have been finalist of the Pablo Casals Competition and winner of the Carnegie Palmer Award of the Worshipful Company of Musicians. I have been principal cellist of the Donatella Flick LSO Conducting Competition and leader and Co-organiser of the Series of recitals "Homage to Calalunya" with the Perseidas Ensemble, broadcast at the Euro classical Online Festival. I was invited to perform live at the BBC Radio 3 "In Tune" and I have collaborated with important orchestras as well as with internationally acclaimed musicians and conductors like Valery Gergiev, Daniel Harding and Sir Colin Davis. This year I am part of the London Symphony Orchestra String Experience Scheme and will be performing Schumann Cello Concerto with the Aleph Chamber Orchestra. I have lead several orchestral including the Guildhall Symphony Orchestra, the LSO Academy Orchestra in 2010 and the Metropolitan Orchestra. I had public master classes with many renown cellists from all over the world like Gary Hoffman, Pieter Wispellwey, David Etheve, Lluis Claret, Antonio Lysy, Johannes Goritzki, Alexander Baillie, Tim Hugh and Rebecca Gilliver.
I am former artistic director of the Solo Artist Ensemble and the Kashmere Trio: (concealed information)
I have done Alexander Technique with Selma Gokcen from 2007 until 2010.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
No, but I wouldn't have any problem if one was required.
- Where and with whom did you train?
My first teacher was Plamen Velev, principal cellist of the Real FilharmonÃa de Galicia. I studied with Oleg Kogan from 2007 until 2011 and Alexander Baillie from 2011 until 2012. My current teacher is Ursula Smith.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I have three current students which I am preparing for grade 8. They are enthusiastic and show an entrepreneurial attitude towards my lessons. They all have the drive to improve and are quickly developing into very good musicians.
I have selected some of my reviews from current students which I think reflect how they feel about my lessons.
''I walked away from my Cello lesson with Alejandra feeling a million Dollars''
''Thank you for another excellent lesson''
'' Another great lesson, a teacher who is passionate and has strict
values which must be shown from day 1. To be able to demonstrate these
values is a must and you have been taught by the very best teachers."
"Your lesson on Saturday 2nd April 2011 has shown me the direction I
must go. "
"My level of playing is still rising and I have even more
determination to succeed which I have looked for in a teacher to
recognize and drive me on.''
''Brilliant Lesson, this is what I wanted to do since I was a small child and at 11 years old learning to play the Cello but I was not allowed to practice at home. I still have time on my side.''
''I am getting more self belief, set strict targets and work on playing faster
with the bow, hand and the correct rhythm.''
