- Personal Message
- My main concern regarding teaching is simply to inspire students to open their minds. Music can enrich our lives no matter what level, and I hope I can help you learn some new things about the guitar!
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
- All aspects of guitar, acoustic and electric. I teach rock/pop, jazz, funk, blues, R&B, reggae and more.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
- Currently completing a BMus Hons degree in Jazz Guitar at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff. I also hold a distinction at grade 8 electric guitar from Trinity College examinations.
- What kind of experience do you have?
- I have been performing music since the age of 11. I have worked frequently in recording studios and have songs on iTunes. I play in several other groups including reggae/dub band Benjie & The Greats, and also many jazz groups, from duo to large ensembles.
I have over 10 years playing and over 6 years teaching experience. I have taught mostly 1:1 but have also conducted several masterclasses and group workshops for both children and adults. I have taught guitar to a wide range of ages and abilities, from 8-year olds to students 50+. - How much do you charge?
- As above.
- Where do you teach?
- I usually teach in the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff. I may be willing to travel to some extent within areas of Cardiff, such as Cathays, Roath, and sometimes (time permitting) from my home in Cwmcarn, near Newport and the surrounding areas of Crosskeys, Risca, Newbridge and Wattsville etc.
- When are you available?
- Am free daytimes and early evenings, weekends and also during school holidays. Please contact me for specific times, I am flexible.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
- I teach all ages and all levels, from absolute beginner upwards!
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
- I can prepare students for grades if they wish, up to and including grade 8.
- Do you have an up-to-date CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) disclosure certificate?
- Yes
- Where and with whom did you train?
- I am currently completing a degree in Jazz Guitar at the Royal Welsh College Of Music and Drama and am studying with Paula Gardiner, Dave Cliff, Nick Weldon, Geoff Simkins. I attended a two-week intensive jazz school in Siena, Italy, where I studied with world renowned guitar players Peter Bernstein (USA), Ben Monder (USA) and Mike Moreno (USA). I also studied classical guitar with Mike Lease.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
- I like to give students the tools they need to explore the guitar whilst learning the styles they like.
The lessons are tailored to the specific needs of the student and the objective is to just have a good time learning to play!
