About Andrew
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have taught guitar and bass privately for 7 years now, and have also taught group lessons in a private music institution.
I am in a sought after function band that performs every weekend, and am in various groups playing original music.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I have a PVG certificate, allowing me to work with children and vulnerable adults.
- Where and with whom did you train?
Edinburgh College and Perth UHI under various excellent guitar tutors.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
One of my students is exceptionally talented, and is thinking of taking up higher music next year. He has been learning guitar for 4 years, and has recently taken up bass for a second instrument. We work on notation reading, improvisation, chord chart reading and soloing each lesson, with his favourite artists being blues/jazz musicians John Mayer and Stevie Wonder.

- Do you have a personal message for students?
I want lessons to be engaging, fun, as well as instructive, so that the pupil can take as much from them as possible.
I also understand that some students might find they want to learn music just as a hobby, and don't need their playing to be exam worthy. I totally understand this, and have tailored lessons in the past to each students needs. I am a very patient, pleasant person and I am always open to communication about what the student wants/needs from the lesson.

Andrew has the exceptional ability to push me to try harder and harder things while still keeping me engaged and not overly frustrated
I really enjoyed my guitar lessons with Andrew - he listened to my previous experiences with music and pitched the lesson at the correct level. I didn't understand how to improvise at all, but by helping me with theory and setting me boundaries I felt more comfortable. Andrew is patient and provides encouragement and is always well prepared for lessons by choosing material that I have requested.
Amazing first 2 lessons with this guy over the past fortnight. I came to Andrew after a year of lessons from another tutor and it's been nice being praised for my ability as it was and also that he has been able to test where my strengths are quickly and make a start to making be an even better guitar player. Lovely friendly tutor who keeps the lesson relaxed yet very productive. Exactly how learning an instrument should be. So full 5 stars ☺ï¸â˜ºï¸â˜ºï¸ï¿½ï¿½ï¿½ï¿½ï¿½ï¿½
