About Angela
- What kind of experience do you have?
I am an experienced singing teacher, voice, speaking and performance coach based in Cardiff with the unique strength of having a classical and pop background. I grew up in the famous Formby family and started out as a sound engineer working with pop and rock bands before gaining my qualifications at the Royal Welsh Collage of Music and Drama. I left to pursue a classical singing career performing internationally with top orchestras.
Having married a music producer I began to work with rock and pop acts and sought the most up to date vocal and science methods to challenge my own voice and repair and strengthen contemporary singers who needed the same level of help. I was able to take my voice and transform it and I will show you step by step how to do the same.
I work with powerful exercises designed to help singers listen and feel their own sound. Exercises that will sort out your troublesome technical issues so that you can sing form the bottom to the top of your range without cracks, breaks or strains. I have trained over 600 singers.

- Tell me about some of your current students.
After spending time with Angela on her 'Vocal Breakthrough Day', my perception of singing completely changed. My aim for the day was to learn how to develop my voice and understand the mechanics a little better. Straight from the off, Angela managed to identify a lot of my bad habits that were counterproductive in my development and exchange them with some great simple techniques. Using a series of exercises that were specifically honed to my voice by Angela, I was able to take my range easily to places that I'd only struggled to in the past. Angela's knowledge of singing overall was also massively beneficial because she managed to dispel a lot of myths surrounding vocal health and sustainability. If you're serious about singing and understanding your voice, this day is a must.

I'm a singer in a pub rock band. We are good at what we do and play a few weddings and corporate
gigs each year as well. I've been singing in bands in one way or another for the past 40 years. It's a
part of me and I love it.

But after all these years it dawned on me recently that I've had guitar lessons, taken tips on song
writing and arranging but I have never thought in any detail about my voice, what it does or how it
works.
I started looking on line for vocal coaches and it felt a bit odd because voice training is for classical
singers isn't it? The thought of paying money to knock out scales didn't appeal to me. Then I found
Angela's website and she seemed to be approaching things differently so I booked a session.
I was hooked after the first lesson and promptly booked a course of 10 sessions which I have just
completed and what a positive and enlightening experience it has been.
Using her unique approach Angela helped me to hear my voice differently. She took me through a
series of exercises that she recorded and promptly emailed me so I have them forever. She gave me
techniques that produced genuine “OMG†moments. For example I was forcing myself to belt out
notes in an Eagles song that I felt were too high for me. But Angela pointed out that I had already
achieved the top notes in my exercises. By changing my mouth and jaw shapes I effortlessly hit notes
that actually felt lower!!
Clearly I'm not great at explaining this here but it's enough to say that Angela has armed me to put
the singer back into the mix in an environment where singers often struggle to be heard. My range
has improved (at both ends) and I have a far greater understanding of how to use my voice more
effectively and with less likelihood of unnecessary damage.
At my last lesson (for now – I will be back!) I realised another massive benefit to Angela's coaching. I
actually got to talk about signing! I'm a guitarist too so I can regularly discuss Strats and Teles, string
gauges and finger techniques with other guitarists. But who talks about singing? Nobody! Not even
singers because there is probably (not in my case of course) a little bit of ego involved. I can't tell you
how interesting and uplifting it is to discuss singing with someone who really understands what you
mean but more importantly, has ideas to address things.
So thank you Angela. Why I left it so long to have vocal coaching I will never know. You have changed
my whole approach to singing without actually changing my voice. I urge anyone who enjoys singing,
at any level, to have at least one session with Angela. You think you're good…but you could be so
much better. Singing is much more rewarding than it ever was before.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?
Singing
I help singers develop their own unique sound and style. Work in lessons comprises personalized warm up routines recorded to practice at home. Students can expect to increase their vocal range, tone, stamina and develop the ability to sing from the bottom to the top of their voices without breaks or strains. I also help singers to deal with nerves in auditions and choose the correct songs to suit their ability.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I began my musical career as a teenager recording a musical and touring the country before spending 4 years as a sound engineer in a top Cardiff recording studio. I gained a performers diploma from the Welsh College of Music and Drama and have spent the last 15 years experience as a singer and teacher. During this time I was the main voice lecturer for the popular music degree course at the University of South Wales for 7 years and am certified by the Institute of Vocal Advancement.
- How much do you charge?
An Total Technique vocal assessment is £75 where you will get clear on what are your vocal strengths and weaknesses and walk away with your personl 20 minute warm up routine. There are packages of 5 and 10 lessons available with discount and debit plans available for those wanting to focus their training over 6 or 12 months.

There is a home here for the beginner who needs all the step by step help to find and build their voice and there are many opportunities for the singer who is ready to leap to the next level in their performing skills so they can become an irresistible entertainer. There is also a home for the frustrated, worn-out singer who is tired of running around trying really hard and getting no-where as well as the burnt-out singer who just doesn't know who they are anymore. I know what you are going through, I was there once.
I want you to know it's going to be ok. You can find your voice and you can find you way forward too. You won't find any get famous quick fix here because that doesn't build a solid foundation for success or artistic integrity. There are shortcuts and fast-tracks (and I will share them all with you) but they all require commitment and a hunger to be all you can be. However, just like in nature when a plant is put in the right soil and given the right kind of care, they grow strong. You really can get the skill set and mindset of a winner and you really can find your voice and magnetic stage ability you have dreamed about.
