About Ben

- What kind of experience do you have?

I have close to 15 years experience teaching geography in a variety of schools, including secondary, international and preparatory. Most recently I was Head of Geography for six years at Horris Hill - a leading boys' preparatory school. I have much experience teaching to Common Entrance, Winchester Entrance, Winchester Election, Eton King's Scholarship, Radley Scholarship, and a variety of other 13+ scholarship entrance papers. My results, over the years, have always been excellent. I also have recent experience teaching IGCSE/GCSE and a variety of AS and A2 syllabi including AQA, CIE and OCR.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

Yes, I have a fully up-to-date DBS Certificate.

- Do you belong to any professional organisations?

I belong to the British Psychological Society as a graduate member.

- Tell me about some of your current students.

Within the last 6 years I have taught pupils who have gained top academic scholarships from Winchester College, Eton College and Radley College. My Common Entrance results were consistently 95% grade A. I am particularly adept at helping those with learning difficulties. I also have recent experience teaching A-level and GCSE candidates.

About the lesson

I am an experienced, successful teacher. I believe in making tutorials interesting and enjoyable, yet also teaching to the highest possible standards.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I teach geography to all levels including Common Entrance, 13 + Scholarship, GCSE, AS and A2. I also have experience teaching EFL and psychology.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I have a degree in geography from the University of Southampton. I completed my PGCE in secondary geography at the University of Oxford (LMH). Lately I have just been awarded a Master of Psychology of Education (with merit) from the University of Bristol.

- How much do you charge?

I charge £40 per hour plus travel expenses if they are incurred.

- Where do you teach?

I can teach at your home, another prearranged venue, or in central Oxford. I also offer tuition over Skype - although I always think that in person is best if at all possible.

- When are you available?

Please contact me regarding availability, although please be aware that my calendar, especially in the school holidays tends to fill up several weeks in advance.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I teach from Common Entrance to A-Level.

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.

I can tutor over Skype. Please contact me to arrange specifics.

- Do you have a personal message for students?

The most successful teaching is a collaborative process between teacher and student, with this in mind I aim to make tutorials enjoyable yet challenging.
