Hello and welcome to my page! I am a freelance musician based in London from April 2016, having formerly held the post of Assistant Director of Music at Chester Cathedral.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach piano, organ, harpsichord, music theory and conducting at all levels.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I graduated in Music from the University of Cambridge (holding the organ scholarship at Emmanuel College), and held the organ scholarships at Canterbury Cathedral and Westminster Abbey. I am a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists and hold their diploma in choral conducting. I studied piano with Julian Jacobson, John Thwaites and the late John Forster, organ with Dame Gillian Weir, Stephen Farr and David Briggs, conducting with Michael Rose, David Hill and Christopher Robinson, and piano accompaniment with Alexander Boyarsky.
- How much do you charge?
I charge £40 an hour (£20 for half an hour), not including travel expenses.
- Where do you teach?
London: I usually teach at a large church at Elephant and Castle, where I work part-time; there is a full-time staff there and many children's activities (including after-school meetings and the largest Sunday School in the UK). There are also several classrooms and two halls with excellent pianos and a very good three-manual Viscount organ in the church itself (designed specifically). It may be possible to travel to student's homes if my schedule allows.
- When are you available?
I am available from Monday to Saturday during term-time and outside term-time (except Sundays).
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
All.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I can prepare students for ABRSM/Trinity-Guildhall exams, and Royal College of Organists' diplomas.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I can teach music theory online, preferably via Skype.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
Please get in touch!
