About Beth
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have extensive orchestral experience with youth orchestras, adult amatuer orchestras, as a paid professional and in Conservatoire. I have been involved in many chamber music projects, again as an amateur and a professional and for two years played as violist in the Cornwell Quartet, performing in public and conservatoire events. In 2009, I was the winner of the Hertford Young Musician of the Year award (strings, and overall winner). I have since performed Concertos with The Maltings Symphonia and Baroque group Summo Campana.
Outside of classical music, I have had experience in a wide range of other genres. I have grown up with folk music, and have always taken a great interest in it. As a singer and violist I performed with bands at venues and festivals across the country. I have also played in Klezmer bands, the Birmingham Conservatoire Folk Ensemble, and a number of small groups, including a guest performance with the folk band Chalktown and touring with Joe Broughton's Conservatoire Folk Ensemble, including performing alongside Fairport Convention at their Cropredy Convention. I also perform regularly in a folk duo with fiddler Anna Mullens and free improv collaboration with TrevorLines.
As a teacher, I have had broad experience in different environments. I've taught theory, composition, aural and pre-exam coaching one to one. I have also taken classroom lessons, at GCSE and below. More recently, I have become a music educator, with roles as an assistant and a workshop leader, for a steel pan band. With larger groups, I have been teaching for the folk youth arts company Shooting Roots for 7 years and I am now a Lead Tutor. I am also a Mentor and Orchestral Coach at the Junior Birmingham Conservatoire as a recipient of the leverhulme mentoring scheme.

Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
My daughter really enjoyed her music theory lessons with Beth. Music Theory is not naturally fun but Beth made it fun and was brilliant at finding different ways of explaining complex musical concepts in a memorable and interesting way. After starting from scratch with Beth, my daughter passed her grade 5 theory with a mark of 93 in less than a year. I would recommend Beth very highly to anyone looking for a teacher, she really does go the extra mile to make sure you do well.
As well as knowing how to teach music (theory), Beth understands how to help children and young people to learn more effectively. Beth is very knowledgeable and thorough but also knows how to make learning enjoyable and uses a variety of activities as memory aids. As well as giving lots of support and encouragement she gives clear feedback about what students need to do to improve. She is very well organised and reliable and I wish her every success for the future.”
