About Gennie

- What kind of experience do you have?

Through my work as a clarinet tutor for the companies Music In Offices and London Music Centre, I have to teach pupils who are a wide variety of ages, ability and experience, so have to ensure that all of my lessons are specifically tailored to the needs of each individual pupil. In my lessons I employ a wide range of teaching methods, to keep variety within the lessons and ensure the students are completely focussed. My background as a clarinettist and bass clarinettist means I have become familiar with a wide range of repertoire, encompassing the Classical era up until contemporary music being written now, as well as jazz and other world styles.

I am currently a Music, Movement and French teacher with Jumping Beans, where I deliver lessons to young children aged between twelve months and five years old, to sing, dance and play. These lessons are delivered in nurseries across London in which a safe, secure and comfortable environment is maintained to ensure that the children can express themselves. The lesson plans are created to complement and reinforce the Early Learning Outcomes for young children.

Also, I am the Music Workshop Assistant for the Creative Club classes for children at Stratford Circus. This work has developed my skills and experience in workshop facilitation for early years and primary age children, through working with the workshop leader to deliver each of the sessions. I support and assist the workshop leader as she teaches the classes, and have taken the lead myself for sections of the classes. Furthermore, I have performed live during the sessions to encourage the children to explore their own musical ideas by following my lead.

- Do you have a personal message for students?

I believe music is an essential part of life, and is accessible to anyone and everyone. It gives people the chance to express themselves as well as learn a skill that they will have for life. I find teaching incredibly rewarding, and really enjoy seeing the progression of my students, and their enjoyment as their skills develop. It's never too late!
