About Jonathan
- What kind of experience do you have?
I was a Police Officer for 15 years and worked on many serious crimes. I was a detective and also worked in uniformed specialist squads. As an experienced officer part of my role was to teach recruits skills such as interviewing, legal knowledge and correct procedure. I also worked with Young Offenders who had committed offences, either as part of a gang or as an individual.
I have focussed these skills on a second career in education. I am a personal tutor and lecturer, working with all ages from 16 upwards. Some of my students need to get a degree so they can get promoted in Criminal Justice Organisations, whilst others want to get into Police work or Youth Justice. I also teach teachers their legal obligations in respect of Safeguarding and often attend Multi-agency meetings.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I have a DBS from 2015.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I have been working with several AS and A2 Sociology students this year. Most of my students have been degree students at university although some have been post-graduates. Many of my students choose me because of my police background and knowledge of crime and deviance, police studies and social control.

Hi,
I am a lecturer and tutor in Sociology, Criminology and Police Studies. I have my own tutoring company, but also work for a college and university as a tutor and Associate Lecturer. I am a retired Police Officer.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
Sociology, Criminology and Police Studies. A lot of the work I do involves assignment and essay improvement, study skills and dissertation proofreading. I have helped many students this year both at sixth form colleges and University including undergraduate and post-graduate research.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
My first degree is in Social Science and Human Geography. I then specialised with a Master's degree in Sociology focussing on Crime and Class. As a major research project I studied the role of the Police in the UK.
I am a qualified to Youth Offending and Restorative Justice practitioner.
I am a qualified lecturer. I also hold a university diploma in Tutoring and Information, Advice and Guidance.
- How much do you charge?
I do offer discounts, please contact me via my website to talk with me at (concealed information) You will also find some resources and media articles.
- Where do you teach?
I generally only tutor online. However, I have worked in both Bedford and Milton Keynes but have to add travelling charges.
- When are you available?
I am generally free all day Monday, Friday and Saturday. I work evenings too. I am free in school holidays.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach GCSE upwards. Some of my learners have retired and want to start their education later on in life as they felt they missed out. Many of my learners already work and are hoping for career progression. For example I have just been working with a Head of Loss Prevention at a major retailer with his Master's dissertation.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I generally support students at University level. However, I also work with GCSE and A level Sociology students.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I can hold skype sessions for students and will send you documents via skype or through e-mail. I also have a students' area on my website. I am looking into using idroo for next academic year.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
here is my favourite quote at the moment 'People quit because it takes too long to see results, they can't figure out that the process is the result.'
