About Dane
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have wide-ranging teaching experience at a range of institutions. I conducted and taught undergraduate and postgraduate Musicianship and Ear Training at the Juilliard School and taught undergraduate conducting at the RNCM. I currently teach conducting and coach chamber music at the Junior RNCM. I have also provided professional development and conducting instruction to music educators from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic's In Harmony Program and also for the Australian Band and Orchestra Directors Association.
As a music educator myself I have been Principal Conductor of the Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Orchestra since 2009 and have extensive experience teaching piano at all levels.

Juilliard graduate, experienced conductor and music educator. I provide a supportive yet challenging environment in which all students grow as musicians. I am comfortable and experienced in teaching beginners, A-levels to Conservatoire level.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
Piano: Beginner to Diploma
Theory and Musicianship: Individual or group classes. Approach tailored to students with a focus of Kodaly and Solfege musicianship and building a foundational base.
Chamber Music: String quartets and trios; wind groups; vocal groups. Coaching on style and interpretation and fundamentals of ensemble playing.
Conducting: Primarily orchestral and opera conducting either individually or I can observe and critique rehearsals, concerts or video footage.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I began life as pianist and received my Diploma while I was in high school. I followed this with a Bachelor of Music in Conducting at the University of Queensland, Australia and furthered my studies with a Master of Music in Conducting at New York's Juilliard School under the late James DePreist and Junior Fellowship in Conducting at the RNCM under Sir Mark Elder for which I received the International Artist Diploma, the RNCM's highest performance award.
- How much do you charge?
I charge £50 for individual lessons.
For group lessons of up to four students I charge £70. Please enquire for larger groups.
- Where do you teach?
I teach throughout London. I am willing to travel further afield for one off or occasional conducting, chamber music or theory/musicianship "cramming" sessions too!
- When are you available?
All weekdays and evenings excluding weekends. Available during school holidays.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach beginning students through to and including conservatoire/university level. Adult learners are also most welcome.

ABRSM Grades including diplomas
A-level music
Conservatoire/University entrance exams
Performance coaching
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
Skype or Google hangouts sessions at mutually convenient times. It is helpful to have good quality webcams/microphones to optimise the experience. For conducting students, it is also possible to supply YouTube links or DropBox links for spoken critique and guidance over the video.
