About Daniel
- What kind of experience do you have?
I am lucky to have teaching experience from a wide variety of schools. I am currently the Head of Mathematics and Physics at a classical ballet school in Shepherds Bush. When I lived in the north of England I completed my training and taught for three years in a large comprehensive school and sixth form college, and after enjoying supply work in some of London's Academies I now find myself in the independent sector. Alongside my diverse teaching experience I have also tutored over fifty pupils in maths and science for Common Entrance, GCSE and A-Level.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes, I have an up-to-date enhanced CRB certificate.
- Where and with whom did you train?
I achieved Qualified Teacher Status in 2009 with the Redcar & Cleveland Teacher Training Partnership.

My name is Daniel Hill, and I am a full-time maths and science teacher. I have now being tutoring for 5 years and find it an extremely rewarding and valuable part of my teaching career.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
As a classroom teacher I have taught GCSE Science, GCSE Maths and A-Level Physics. Therefore, as a tutor, I have a working knowledge, not just of the content needed for the exams, but how to pass the exams. Also, thanks to my physics background, I enjoy teaching mathematics, not just as 'sums', but as a way of solving the puzzles science throws at us.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
Having graduated with a degree in Physics and Philosophy BSc (Class One) I trained as a teacher. I have now worked as a classroom teacher for four years and achieved Qualified Teacher Status as recognised by The General Teaching Council of England in 2009
- How much do you charge?
I charge £40 for per hour's tuition (£45 for A-Level).
While I appreciate my rates might not be the most competitive you may find on this site, as one of the few qualified teachers in full time employment working as a tutor I feel my rates are justified.
For pairs, or small groups, add £10 per extra student.
- Where do you teach?
I live between Tooting Bec and Balham, but work inShepherds Bush, so am very well connected, especially when travelling back from work,
- When are you available?
Generally, I can work whenever it is convenient for you.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I am qualified to teach right through from KS2-KS5 (8-19 years old) and am experienced in preparing students for KS3 SATS, Common Entrance, GCSE exams, IGCSE exams and A-Level exams.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
For online tutoring I have both a webcam and a microphone, while being able to share a 'virtual whiteboard' with the student. Ideally the student will also have a webcam and microphone to enable and encourage a positive learning dialogue as with face-to-face tutoring.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
I genuinely enjoy helping people to understand things. I'd be lying if I said that the lessons will be the most fun you've ever had, but I bet they'll be more fun than you're expecting. I promise that you'll learn. I promise that you'll do better in your exams. And if I break that promise, you can write whatever you like on my forehead before I walk home.
