About David
- What kind of experience do you have?
I've recently moved back to Nottingham, my home town, having worked as a tutor in London for the past five years. I've undertaken hundreds of hours of teaching experience, working with over 30 students on a wide range of briefs. I have particular experience working with dyslexic students of all ages. I also assess and interview potential new tutors for a top London tutoring agency.
I have worked a lot with students in Year 5 and 6, on comprehension and story writing, alongside grammar and spelling. This has included preparing students for 11+ and 13+ entrance exams and previous students have been awarded places at prestigious London schools, including Westminster and St. Paul's.
I have lots of experience working with GCSE and A-Level students, to support their preparation for controlled assessments and exams. Last year I had four GCSE students sitting English Language and English Literature. Results were: A* / A*, A* / B, A / A, A / B. Three of these students were dyslexic.
I have worked with undergraduate students, in a Learning Support role, offering structure and support, as well as feedback on written work.
I have also worked with students applying to Oxford University, sitting the ELAT examination. My last student was awarded a place at Magdalen College.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

David has taught both my children since 2013, starting with my daughter for GCSE and A-Level and now with my son, on his GCSEs.
David has always worked tirelessly, with total dedication and commitment, enabling them to excel, whilst maintaining a professional and reliable attitude.
His expert knowledge of dyslexia has allowed my son to understand texts, write well and have confidence in himself and his work. Consequently, he is thriving, due solely to David. I would readily and highly recommend him.David has been teaching our son for over three years. He is inspirational as well as reliable and his love of English Literature and theatre is infectious. He has a great knowledge of the syllabus and always comes prepared with a lesson plan. He works through comprehensions thoroughly and has inspired thoughtful and sensitive pieces of creative writing.
He's great for theatre recommendations too!View more recommendations
